Before anyone else says it: Format your harddrive and install XP.

If you're not gonna do that... what e-mail are you using? Web-based (gmail, hotmail, etc.)?

HU, we just had 17 new machine unloaded and reformatted with XP ..now they work for the intended purpose but interestingly though, we co-installed OS X 10.5 on 10 of these machines that are quad-core processors and we have screaming fast native macs as well as dual boot systems and neither XP or OSX are running on an emulator.

I'm pretty sure what he's driving at is that you should put Xp on your machine, Microsoft did what it usually does , roll out a new operating system thats not ready, I would go for a dual boot install , its fairly easy to set up, and will allow you the best of both worlds, an operating system that allows you to do what you want when Vista wont, and the latest GUI friendly system that probably wont be fixed until service pack 27.
Hope this helps

Try turning off the protected mode... double click where it says "protected mode" (bottom right of the screen)... see if that fixes it..

Glad you found the problem, H_U... and I'm glad I know what the problem was now, because I use AVG and if I ever "upgrade" to Vista it would probably take me 3 days to figure it out too!!
