I'm swapping a broken Asian movement with an ETa 2824-2 on my Mariner, I have the correct dial and related parts but I want to use a metal movement retainer ring instead of a plastic ring. Does anyone know where I can get this part?

Moonraker,
I wanted a metal ring for a FrankenPAM project and I wound up making one myself out of brass. Of course, I had to keep experimenting with thickness and width, so I am probably going to remake this ring for the third time this weekend. Part of the joy of watchmaking ...

Nice that you have the ability to make such a piece, you are right it's the joy of watchmaking, unfortunately I dont have the needed equipment, a simple lathe would do, but even so my skills as a machinist are lets say not up to par, good luck to you.

With the plastic piece, atleast the one that fits in my watch, there is notisable looseness of the dial/movement when I unscrew the crown and wind it. I would prefer a retainer that holds tightly, I believe the metal ring is the ticket, that's why the ETA Reps all have it.

ah ok thx you :D
I knew there had to be some reason to go through the hassle of looking around for em.
interesting about the plastic not holding correctly..

you'd think they'd fix that..
only recently have I been reading up on retainers as I am in the process of switching out a a21j w/ a high beat.. or ETA..
still weighing out the cost/benefits

I opened one of my Noob Yacht-Masters (brainstorm) and found the plastic retainer to be slightly taller than the one previously discussed, couldn't tell any other major difference, switched it to the ETA, point is it does fit a little tighter and when the case cover is fully close it may press slightly down on the taller retainer, this has cured the problem, trick is where to find these particular plastic retainers, they work well on ETAs. Put the other ring on the Noob and works fine, go figure. Any one know where to get plastic retainers for Asian movements?
