Where will it end for you? With gens or reps?

Where do you think you'll end up in the end? Buying genuine watches or replicas and why?

As good as the better reps are nowadays, I see no reason to change my rep-buying ways.

gens when i can afford them, reps when i obviously can't. I will end up with both. i find that buying a gen straight out is not always so great... sometimess a waste of money?

like - you buy a gen... u thought it was great, but the new watch allure wears off and u sorta wish u had a "trial run"

reps are a great way to "trial run" some gens! some reps are also SOOOO good, dont even know why i would pick up a gen?

ie: men's tag link - solid kickass rep.

well, i guess since the last rep i bought was october of 07 and in the last 5 months i have bought my wife and i both brand new rolex's that answers your question. the cartel has pushed the prices of the decent reps to stratospheric levels without doing a damn thing about the quality and i said enough is enough. if i am to buy anymore reps one of two things will have to happen. either they will bring the quality up on par with the gens in the same price range or put the prices back where they belong. i don't see either one of those things ever happening so if i am going to overspend to get the watches i want i can guaranty you the quality will be there along with a warranty. i am waiting on basel to make a decision on what my next purchase will be. it is a damn shame they screwed up a fun hobby. oh well........ :?

Don't know really, right now I'm still a student, so probably in about 8 years I'll buy mostly gens if everything goes well once I get my profession, but I'm pretty sure I will mix reps with gens.

Gens.

Started with gens and just as crick stated, I ended up buying some that soon lost their appeal and I took a big hit selling/trading them.

I moved to reps where I purchased hundreds and sold off or traded the ones I didn't like. I love how reps give everyone the opportunity to try out expensive gens for a fraction of the cost.

For now I've picked out the watches I liked the most over my rep collecting and starting to purachase the gen versions over the past month.

Will I by another rep? Maybe if there is a new style of something that I'm not sure if I like or not. Honestly...probably not. It sure is nice seeing those triple boxes on the desk and the papers guaranteeing that your watch was QC'd and not a POS.

Will I leave here? Nah, your stuck with me :D

Thats like asking what your last meal will be, breakfast lunch or dinner. I depends. I have more gens than reps but the reps are more fun even though I only have a couple.

I waiver too much with this question. I have 8 reps and rarely ever wear them. I realy love them but I just like my gens better. Maybe I have not graduated to super reps or maybe I am just not an uber fan like some are. Some days all I care for and want are reps and will sit for hours searching for my next purchase but the risks are high and that usualy drives me back to gens. Plus all I want is the best sub... is that too much to ask?

Rep... I can't wear a $1k+ watch. Just doesn't make senses for me.

If it wouldn't be of the rep, I would have Citizen, Seiko and maybe a used Omega at most, but no real expensive watch. Not a money problem since with all my rep, I could probably buy a 2k-3k gen watch for the same price, but it's about confort and not being over protective with my watch because of this value. Don't know why

Problably a mix of gens and reps just like it is now. But the reps will be super reps or Frankens.I am adding to the gen collection. Also weant to incorporate more high quality tech packed watches (casio, as well as automatics like Citizen and Seiko Monster(my next purchase). ASomething like I have now , but I see how his game works, we buy a watch we wear it and we sell it after a WHILE. keeping very few for the duration. The gens we tend to hold on to. Taking a loss on a gen is not acceptable to me. By B-2 is mine always as is my Rolex and Tissot.

MAybe when Im on my deathbed or when they find my rotting body in a one romm weekly rental they'll have to pry off my old classic swatch. So in the end none of this really matters.

I can't justify the cost of 1/2 dozen gens, so the reps are great for me. I like a wide variety of designs, so the rep world gives me a chance to enjoy something different all the time, be it PAMs, B&R, Alain Silberstein, or whatnot. In my dreams it would be gens, I suppose, but that ain't gonna happen, so I'm happy with good quality reps. It does annoy me when they aren't reliable though.

I have one gen SMP, any other purchases are likely to be reps. You can buy a good rep for the price of servicing a genuine, for me it is the 'throw away' factor. The only gen I a liley to buy now is a Ulysee Nardin. Anything else I will buy the rep.

I have Gens and Reps at this point and with the way pay is running in my industry I will be buying a few more Gens in the near future. I can not see getting out of reps at any point because I am having such a good time with them right now. I can not see myself buying but one Gen that is is more than $3000 to $4000 at this point, and that is a Breguet. The sheer history of this marque has spurred my desire for one, so I will own one. That will have to wait until I get the last kid out of the house and move out of the country. Like the Mohel said " It won't be long now! "
