(I posted this on RWG. I see it's here too, so please excuse a reprint)

Now, there is absolutely nothing "wrong" with any of us pointing fellow members to a good find.

But conspiracy theory "documentaries" (I can barely mention the word for trash like this) are my SPECIAL bête noires. I'll always reply to posts about them.

What makes them so corrosive is that, like many people who wish to push an agenda, the makers of this documentary use a little truth, and selectively intertwine them with their moronic opinions.

Anyone with half a brain understands that parts 2/3, which do with the Federal Reserve, and 9/11, are half-wit utterings. But I bet you anything that what appeals to people is the religious part of this "documentary".

Once people like this hook people, because they happen to touch on a topic they don't like (namely, organised religion, SPECICALLY Christianity), our logic about their theories flies out the window.

It's like our brains go into freeze-mode, where we know the first 2 parts are nonsense, but oh! hey this part is pretty good. There must be some truth in it!

No.

People who know just a little bit of history and philosophy can easily destroy the arguments presented by these lunatics.

Let me put it this way:

Have you guys ever read Gerald Massey?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_Massey

Instead of watching this "documentary", please read the direct sources instead.

Is this movie the sequel to Poltergeist? (sorry bad jokey)...I watched the trailor and it was primarily George Carlin doing a comedy spoof against certain doctrinal beliefs...also looked up Gerald Massey not to be confused with Raymond Massey the great canadian actor, but sorry I still don't get it. What is this movie about anyway?... Either not many have seen it or else it's too controversial hot potatoe thing. :?

I posted this link (or one similar) a week or two back.
Some of the info is true, some is pure extrapolation. But who knows.

I guess if I'm not posting about midgets no one reads me.

Guess I missed your earlier post about the movie. I will probably be passing on this movie anyway, I'm too picky about what I pay to see...but now that midgets are involved this thread could catch like wildfire.

Ooh, gosh a Raymond Massey fan. I thought we were all dead or lurking. ;)

This "movie" purports to explain the origins of the Federal Reserve, 9/11, and Christianity.

I wrote this on RWG, Cybee. It explains my views. ;)

"Conspiracy theories are nothing new in the world, and their explanations can be "fun", in the way cow-tipping can be fun (I guess).

They really took off after the French Revolution, which was attributed to: Freemasons, the Illuminati, the Jesuits, and of course, everyone's favourite whipping boys, the Joos (mostly in the form of the Rothschilds).

Today, it's Halliburton (the Freemasons), the World Bank (the Illuminati), the UN (the Jesuits), but yep, still the Joos (Neo-Conservatives like Paul Wolfowitz, also the head of the World Bank and a Bilderberger, conspiracy theory JACKPOT!).

Once you step on this mud of logic, you come out very dirty indeed."

So there we are. ;)

here is the plot in so many words....

In three parts, Zeitgeist (which has no credits) attempts to show that 1) Christianity is rehashed pagan sun-worship and is used by the rich and powerful to control people, 2) the 9/11 tragedies were part of an elite conspiracy, and 3) ever since World War I, the ultra-rich have been secretly manufacturing wars and financial collapses to control the populace and to get richer and more powerful.

like i said before, i dont know if any of this is true or not. i simply posted this to share with the members. it seems to be a very hot topic on the web and i think its definitely worth watching.

Ciao again, Italiano! :)

Just to mention that it's not a personal slam at you or anything. That's not my style, as I'm sure you know.

It's just that since President Bush got elected, and 9/11 happened, the world has been treated to a surfeit of conspiracy theory "documentaries" which are anything but true documentaries.

They have NOTHING in common with the genre, like Nanook of the North (1922), the "7 Up" series, or even Hoops Dreams. There is no "agenda" behind a documentary of this calibre, or at least is so professionally put together, that it's not readily apparent.

What I mind is the amateurishness, the lack of intellectual depth, the utter, laughable moonbattery.

I know you're just pointing people to a good movie you think they might enjoy. In fact, I encourage people, not discourage them to watch it (well, once it's brought up. I would never do so on my own). The more people are exposed to this, the more logical beings will realise how pathetic these peoples' attempts to "inform" are.

Back in the day, it used to be Right-wingers who were the main conspiracy theorists (with the possible exception of the JFK assassination). I thought they were lunatics then, those John Birchers, those anti-semites, those Branch Dravidian tragedy worshipping creeps.

But to my horror, it's now the Left-wingers that are the main culprits for this new surfeit of conspiracy theories. And since Universities are weighted to the Left, you have tenured professors teaching this crap. It sickens me.

Well, anyway -- it's a really awful trend we see today.

I am willing to argue each and every point presented in Zeitgeist, because I have the educational background so to do. I am a Historian by training.

It's just that most people don't want to argue, because it's tedious. However, here I am, in case of interest. :)

@Watchbuff: Oh hey there! I had no idea you were here.
