Selling a rep on the Bay...

There is a reaon I posted in the flame-free zone....

wondering if anyone had a thoughts about how to fairly sell a rep in the bay. I'm definately not interested in passing off a rep as real, but lets face it- there are a lot of people out there who would be interested in say, a modded Pam, that are not aware of this site. I know Ebay forbids rep sales so the wording would have to be such that the bidders were aware of what they were buying and ebay was not aware it was a "tribute" edition.

Perhaps a buy it now combined with an honest letter to the winning bidder... you could not possibly think you were buying a real Pam for say $600- but a nicely modded Pam IS worth that, sometimes more.

Just thinking!

I wouldn't bother, even if your wording alludes to the watch being a replica without actually saying replica, you are still selling a replica watch. I wouldn't mess with ebay or paypal in this department. They aren't very lenient and will ban your account no questions asked. Moreover, selling a replica is illegal in the US and you wouldn't want to be selling one in a public place like ebay.

Sin #1 in our hobby is selling a rep as a gen.

Sin #2 is selling a rep in a public arena. The exposure is not good no matter how you go about doing it. Also, the above poster is right, PP will suspend your account, and take any money in it, if they catch you.

This is simply NOT a good idea.

Why not just use the services that are offered on the forums? There are 5 or 6 out there now that offer for sale / trade ads.

Yeah, ebay's no good probably. If you live in a big city, you could try craigslist though.

I've seen a few replicas on Craigslist, but mostly Rolex. I'd still be careful doing this as Craigslist is regularly monitored by police. Here in my home town they just busted a woman for selling dozens of fake designer purses and bags, she came to people's houses with a mini van full and had a Tupperware type party. I doubt they'd bust anybody for one replica watch though, so if you only do it once or twice you should be under the radar.

You are right there are a lot of people out there that are unaware of us. That is exactly the way to keep it. The more attention that is brought to our hobby the more likely people are to see it as a problem. Our transactions through the post are no more monitored than they are because as long as the average person thinks that rep watches are the shitty Canal street stuff the less likely we are to get shut down. That is why we don't wear good reps to ADs and wave them around. Why bring any unwanted attention to us. I see that as a really bad idea. Of course this is besides the fact that as everyone else has said Paypal will screw you if they get wind of it.

I think some of the people that try to sell their replica on eBay don't know eBay's TOS. By the way they write there descriptions, you can usually tell whether or not they know it's against the TOS.

Does anyone knoe about ubid.com or those other shady bid sites? I've seen reps on there (way over priced), but hundreds of them. I'm curious if people here ever bought from those sites. I would personally only sell my watch to someone I know cares enough to do research about the hobby- and understand unwritten codes. People here pay good and fair prices for those upgraded super reps (imo).

Doing a Pat O'brien Insider report on replica auction sites? J/K

iOffer and Ubid are full or replicas, but you'll over pay and sometimes you'll get a totally different watch than pictured. A few of the dealers have iOffer accounts and you can usually ind new models there first, at high premiums. I don't trust using my credit card on sites like those though.
