How do you determine a value of a watch after mods?

I am trying to figure out what a "fair market value" is for a rep with Mods and would appreciate your help.

I have a TT Breitling Navitimer Serie Especial that the Asian movement quit working after about 3 months. So after looking at the cost to fix it I decided to find a donor movement. After about two months of looking I found a Swiss ETA 17 Jewel Movement that came out of a Boluva. I took it to a local watch guy with the ASIAN movement already out of it to avoid suspicion and told him that the original movement got destroyed after swimming with it in the ocean. Anyway, I saved the datewheel and the stem with the crown from the rep however, suspecting that the Bulova would not be the same as the rep Breitling datewheel and to keep the "B" on the crown

He had to use the stem that came with the Bulove but popped off the crown and put it on the SWISS movement stem and took the Swiss datewheel off and put the rep datewheel on. It came out awesome and it has been working flawlessly for two months now.

My question is, if I were going to sell this at some point, how do you determine what a fair price is?

Thanks and I look forward to your answers.

One thing I find interesting in your write up is that you used a Swiss 17 J 7750. Am I reading that right? What I find interesting is according to the Guru repair folks I've talked to you can't replace a newer A7750 with the older 17 J S7750. Another thing, and this is where I could be way the hell out there in left field on, does that watch take a 7750? I know nothing about what you have simply because they've never pushed any buttons for me.

Concerning the value, the value is whatever it means to you. Simple, huh? You want street value then you'll have to put it up for sale thereby allowing those who want one to tell you what it's worth to them. Sort of like FleBay. Put some outlandish figure on it and then dump it down until you find the value. However, if you like it, keep it. You've spent the funds so enjoy it. Tim

Thanks K4TJP

All I know is that the Rep originally had an ASIAN 7750. The Swiss 17 Jewel 7750 works perfect (reserve is 2 days, accurate to my Atomic clock to 1 minute +/- during those 2 days)

I agree with K4tjp. It is worth what ever you can get someone to pay for it. Trust me if you put it up the folks on this forum will be brutally frank with you about it's value to them. Sometimes a thick skin is required, but don't take it personal. If you offer it you asked for it. :)

Someone PM'd me wanting to see PICS of the Breit with the donor SWISS 17J movement, so if someone can tell me how to post them here I will do it.

If it is an UPGRADE or a TRUE Mod, then you should charge accordingly and maybe get a little more. If a movement is put in just to get the watch running again then the watch should be sold at currnt matket value. Just because a new movement was put in, it doenst necessarily make the watch worth more.
