Let's face it, the beauty of Panerai is in its simplicity. That being said, there's no reason to have as much difficulty reproducing the watch as DS seems to have, unless you don't really desire to have a 1:1 rep. When you have excellent reps of complex watches such as the HBB, Evo, IWC, etc., and yet can't reproduce a PAM's simple font, or the color of the lume, or keep the lume in a straight line, or keep the threads from stripping, something is definitely wrong. On a $100 rep, no problem. But for all the DS apologists who apparently think paying close to $400 for a sub-par rep is fine and dandy, all I have to say is that sort of mentality is a disservice to eveyone collecting reps. It only reinforces the factory's and dealer's beliefs that in the aggregate, quality control is not that important.
If we, the buyers, are content with this one-step-forward one-step-backward pattern for watch upgrades, then nothing will ever change. Seeing the daily tweeks in the development of the HBB and Evo showed me that factories can be responsive to our input. So pardon me for having a hard time believing that Davidsen's monthly dial upgrades are in any way a response to all the input this community has given him. It's just the same old business all over again.
