I agree that a rep wil never be perfect. like a gen. But on this subject I understand it. Allot of people did helped davidsan to get a perfect dial, I saw some drawings on the forum etc etc, if you then see that it didn't helped its sad.

But hey I love those davidsan and getting one soon :)

too much fuss?

i guess i never really noticed the font,i am way more concerned about the mechanics of the watch i buy first. of course i look for the best i can find and i always buy swiss when possible, but lately ive notice that my watches are coming to me in need of some kind of mechanical repair.3 out of my last 4 needed work by my own jeweler or i had to return it and get a replacement sent. i have 4 panerais... a 217(asian copy swan neck with saphire) from EL, and 3 111's from EL,the last one was with a swiss made adjustable swan neck. the swiss made came with absolutely no lume on the disk behind the dial(hands glowed good) and a scratch across the movement. i didnt really notice the font. it looks pretty good to me. ive even done side by side at a panerai outlet store here and really didnt see much difference(a little) i have even showed it to a guy who came up to me wearing a gen and he didnt notice the font difference,or the fact that mine was a rep! he just commented on my strap and we talked for 20 min about our collections(somehow i feel smarter than him for spending 300 on a great rep while he spent 10-12 x more and has vertually the same watch as far as he knows)
my point is that i like to get a good mechanicaly sound watch,a good winding stem,a good lock down or screw down crown,a clean dial/movement and glowing when it should...the font looks good on all my pams.
i just want DAVIDSEN to fix his screw n tube problem and forget about the PERFECT FONT because 99.995% of people out the dont even know what a freaking panerai is!! and the people that do know what a panerai is,dont notice font...they notice the lume, the crown guard, the smooth sweep of the movement......etc
im sorry for my mini adam carolla rant but i really want the mechanical problems to be addressed. then we can do the font. thank you and good nite
WTB: a good modded watch from DAVIDSEN 111,127,005,177
ps...just bought the 458.00 rolex from ANDREW. any one else buy that one yet? got a review of it i can read? or your opinion??

Let's face it, the beauty of Panerai is in its simplicity. That being said, there's no reason to have as much difficulty reproducing the watch as DS seems to have, unless you don't really desire to have a 1:1 rep. When you have excellent reps of complex watches such as the HBB, Evo, IWC, etc., and yet can't reproduce a PAM's simple font, or the color of the lume, or keep the lume in a straight line, or keep the threads from stripping, something is definitely wrong. On a $100 rep, no problem. But for all the DS apologists who apparently think paying close to $400 for a sub-par rep is fine and dandy, all I have to say is that sort of mentality is a disservice to eveyone collecting reps. It only reinforces the factory's and dealer's beliefs that in the aggregate, quality control is not that important.

If we, the buyers, are content with this one-step-forward one-step-backward pattern for watch upgrades, then nothing will ever change. Seeing the daily tweeks in the development of the HBB and Evo showed me that factories can be responsive to our input. So pardon me for having a hard time believing that Davidsen's monthly dial upgrades are in any way a response to all the input this community has given him. It's just the same old business all over again.

i know a guy that ownes 8 Panerais, - he buys whatever watch he likes, no ! matter what !. He doesnt know or understand anyhting about it...nothing...why should he...he likes the way they look...thats it. i envy him....because i read and know so much....but he...got the dough to own it. I would die for one of the watches he has.... he might throw them away if they dont keep time. He drives a Vanquish and ownes a software company around the corner in San Jose.

SHIT !!

Unless you receive a totally different watch, the pictures have already done the talking. Go to his section and look.

hey tootall...

I got an idea. If you can do better than Davidson and make a 1 to 1 dial then go for it. Otherwise leave the guy alone. He is taking the time and effort (wether big or small) to make something better than it allready is. If you don't like it, no one is holding a gun to your head to buy it.

I am not trying to sound like an ass, but SHIT OR GET OFF THE POT!!

Just my 2 cents

Hey, pete2528ca I thought this was the flame free zone. I bring up intelligent discussion about the flaws in what is supposed to be an updated version, and I get bashed for it? That is ridiculous. If I knew that I could "get into the game" of making these parts I would. It is kind of hard for a nobody to charge $50 for a dial if no one knows his reputation. But I "could" make one, especially with all the spoon feeding that davidsen received. Go back and look over all the posts that literally did all the leg work for him. As I stated a few said they would give him all their expertise on digital photography, but he chose not to heed this.

I am starting to hear an echo in here.

i am sorry...i didnt check what forum it was in, and you are right it is the flame free zone. please accept my appology for flaming you in here.

Its just lately, since that post about the HORRORS of dealers, it is getting silly. All I am saying is that it is silly to expect a PERFECT replica. Honestly I bet if someone like DAVIDSON was going to charge say a grand, I bet he would be willing to spend hours perfecting one. Just think, a watch maker usually charges $40 to $50 per shop hour right. I am sure if you talked to say Davidson (and just a note, I am hypothesising here), he would put together the most EXQUISITE Panny for you. Pick your model, pay the value of that, plus $40 per shop hour, and after say 10 to fifteen hours of farting around you would have the best looking pam rep out there, probably at well over a grand.

Anyway, sorry for flaming you that was bad of me.

I believe there is perfect replica as far as dial, case, hands etc. is concerned, excluding movement, but even that, with the pannies, just correct the engraving on the back of the "unitas" eta for the models that come with diplay back and you are set...THERE IS A PERFECT, if there wasnt, i wouldnt be here and i am not scared to admitt that :D

....and yes i do own a gen of it....

If you dont strive for perfection, why do you buy an "improved" model in the first place ?

...we were still lead to believe this would be as close to a 1:1 as you could get...

Who offers one that is closer to 1:1? If this is the most accurate one out there, then it IS as close to 1:1 as we can get. For the moment, anyway.
