I don't know why anyone would use anything but news groups. All this other stuff is so slow, it's like your wasting your high speed connection. On news groups I can download an entire dvd in 1 hour 45 min on average mp3's download before I select something else. I'll not use any P2P or torrent again unless newsgroup access is impossible...JMO

It's well worth the effort to learn how to use news groups..... :D Most ISP's have free servers for their subscribers...

To set it up, all you need is your ISP's news server. It usually the same as the mail server, just substitue news where mail is. A couple examples.... if mail server is mail.yourisp.com, the news server would be news.yourisp.com

And typically the user name and password is the same as your mail username and password provided for the mail account included with you internet service.

You will need a news reader... you can use outlook express but it's not very functional... I use the news reader called Grabit. It has a very friendly user interface and easy to use with a little practice..It's free... :D Here's the link... http://www.shemes.com/

If you have trouble, call your ISP to verify user name and password. Then populate the grouplist and search for what you are interested such as MP3

Use the force young padawans!!!!!

KBps and not Kbps? It must be nice having an 8Mbps connection with uncensored newsgroups. :D

On my 24Mbps connection, I have seen up to 2000KB/s, which is 16Mbps, but most of the time I peak round the 6-8Mbps range. Realistically, anything round the 2Mbps (256KB/s) is good, as any TV show or movie only needs downloading as fast as you can watch it, and most rips are around the 1200-1300Kbps video/audio bitrate.

Putain, de quoi en parle?

8Mbps is merely fast. Very fast is 24Mbps.

Ok OK Ibe confused....but merely fast is pretty fast for residential connection..... :D . Here's a pic of the lower portion of the grabit GUI hard at work for those who might be interested.....

I can personally vouch for NewsBin V5. Very good program in my eyes for d/l from newsgroups. I also use a premier newsgroup service that costs me $40 per 3 months and has a 50 day retention plus a nzb search/dl feature.

guys - if you are going on P2P sites, go grab PeerGuardian. Please protect yourselves :)

also, here's a pug quote "Well, I'm quickly approaching your age and find it no trouble at all. "

Do you mean you are aging quicker than most humans? I doubt you'll ever be his age at the same time :)

Me, I'm a http://www.revolutiontt.net/ man.

that or ircspy.com and MIRC.

Hopefully some of you more savey peeps here can help me out once again.

Ive downloaded a few movies now and want to burn them on DVD.

Problem:
My software says the correct codec is not installed..blah, blah, blah....
I went and installed the AC3 filter but that didnt help.

Apparently I need software to convert these to DVD before I burn them???
I need some help and/or advice.

You need DVD Authoring software. Usually, it's best to just use your burning software, like Nero.

Be warned that it does take a while. By which I mean several hours.

On a Mac, you can use Toast or my favourite, VisualHub. On a PC, get Nero.
