So,
the Superocean is out today.
And I am witness to yet another frenzy over the watch.
Seems like every time a new nice lloking rep comes out, lots of people rush and jump, buying with their Paypal and waiting with great hopes.
But this happens all the time.
I remember when the first PO came out: frenzy then a slowing down and then the brain kicks in to analyze and assess the watch they had just paid loads of money for.
Then reviews come out picking apart the watch, pointing out all its flaws. Then people start regretting having bought the watch so fast without taking a step back first.
It was the same with the 4th gen PO: the frenzy came back again, with everybody jumping and paying in a hurry because they thought they had it all finally. Then OOOPS. here it is again: a step back and the "nit pickers" finally post their nit picking and sure enough you start seeing 4th PO going on sale for cheap prices and some dont even get sold as fast as the sellers expect.
Then we witness the coming of the Ultimate: now the frenzy is back again.
People all over the watch, blowing more money again, Paypals flying around endlessly, WU's firing off...
Now people think they finally have it all in a watch "they'd been waiting for"...
And then, some nit pickers try hard and succeed in finding some flaws and also some people are reporting some problems with the Ultimate...
Soon enough, we will see Ultimates go on sale as used for a pretty good price.
Well, just when you thought people on this forum would know better, the Superocean is out and the mad frenzied rush to get one starts all over again.
No one seems to have learned to wait and/or pose questions first to see the worthiness of the rep. No reviews, no nitpicking yet but still lots of people blindly throwing their money toward China, gambling and clinging to their faith in the "what if it's the One"....
This is not $150 or $225, we are dealing with a chunky $325!!!! Guys!
I've seen something else happens too: when a new rep first comes out, the price is sky high then if you wait a little while you see people like Andrew, King or Ruby sell the same watch for alot less...
Now, I ask: why the haste? Why the hurry?
Shouldn't the dealer who comes out with a new rep first offer a sample to someone like By-Tor to test, try and review for the good of the forum? It would add great assurance that the watch is worth every bit of the $325 and give ultimate credebility to the dealer.
If this is not possible, then why dont we just slow down and wait for the first couple purchases to be tried and true??
Or who knows, we could wait long enough and then suddenly see the 2nd gen SO???
This is one aspect of the hobby I do not enjoy. Yes it is fun to anticipate a new toy in the mail or get a brand new model never released before but not at the expense of my $400 Canadian.
I also notice that somtimes, within one generation the first batch can turn out to be the best watches or sometimes the second batch can be slightly better because of one part being now installed on the watch...
(think back at the old factory SMP, etc)... So, the ganble is there: these Superoceans this weekend could be the best ones made ever or they could turn out to be the worst ones...
I wont gamble anymore money on new reps....
I will let time tell the tale.
Off I go to spend my money on a gen Tag Heuer Link.
Gotta a good deal on one: just $200 more than this rep Superocean every one is drooling about right now.
