My 1680 has made it home

This project started with a MBW 1680 and a bunch of gen parts back in July. Knowing how limited my watch skills are I sent this to Joe for the transformation. Shortly after I sent it to him he took ill and everything was put on the back burner. Eventually things got rolling and I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

I did have a Gen white dial I was going to use but after talking it over with Joe decided to leave the singer red dial. I think the red dial is much better looking than the white. Also, there was some discussion on the Gen tropic. Joe had mentioned that he had not seen one with the beveled edge and was not sure if it was a gen.... wouldn't say it wasn't gen just that he had not seen one with a beveled edge. Anyone wanting to chime in on that subject is welcome to.

yea, I believe my tropic was around that amount.... from a friend of the forum. :wink: I love the date mag on this thing. I think a blind person can read the date on this watch. It really "pops" the date out there.
@ERD - does your tropic have that beveled edge? Maybe I can get Joe to pop in on this thread and comment. I'd really like to be sure what I'm saying is a gen tropic is a gen tropic.

I'll post a picture of the 3's on the date wheel tonight or this weekend. The date wheel is the one that came with the MBW and was not changed. I am interested in comments compared to a gen so feel free to fire away.

I don't like the bracelet on this watch. They're just to light weight and feel flimsy. I may have to look into sticking a rivited bracelet on it to give it some substance. Maybe a good quality nato.

As promised here is a pic of the 3. As I stated previously the datewheel is standard MBW and was not modded. I am watching very closely the Watchmeister v3.0 datewheels thread on RWG and if all goes well, and they check out, one will find itself on the inside of "Red".

yep..no beveled edge on the real deal. The ones with a bevel are the $20 ones you can get on ebay. I have an extra one if someone is looking. :wink:

Well that is interesting. I was sold this tropic as a gen by a well respected board member.

I think yours is correct. The ebay ones, have a 45 degree bevel around the top edge.....yours does not.

Hey Happy T i see u got your watch and am loving it and yes on the natos, man they do make the 1680 pop, i told u had some good ones if u wanted one ok

for the record this crystal did not come from me, just sent to me to install , we had a talk about it and it did indeed come in the wax baggy with rolex logo just like the ones i sell , but the crystal side is slightly different than mine , thats all i can tell u , i just wanted to clarify this point for all
