I'am pleased to tell you that i got my 2 watches that i both from River out of customs, went to customs after reciving a letter saying that they would destroi them. I Went there, choose a lady to talk ( ), flirted, said the truth, that they were replicas and that it was to my collection. She said that they had to destroi them and then i asked her to get a coffe, there i said that i knew that they had oppen the EMS package, that is a crime in my country (3 years of jail and 3500 € to me) since they need my authorization but they didn't had it (yet), after that i said that i didn't want any trouble or put someone in trouble with that. We went to customs again, she gave me the package and the 2 watches that were some place else and a paper with her phone number.
I got my watches!!!
Regards

Wow that's quite a story. So customs has a heart afterall. But if customs thought the watches were gen at first what reason did they give for wanting to destroy them in the first place? Way to go and congratulations, you got through customs, got your watches, and maybe a new girlfriend...just make sure that she is genuine. :)

He said Portugal, not Thailand!

Nice going and good spot knowing the laws of your land! I wonder if we have anything like that in the US... then again the Patriot act woudl probably kill any rights we have like that...

So the important question... is she hot? Are you gonna hook up?

Asside from the obvious benefeit of having a cute gf having someone in tight in customs would be a big boon!

years ago, a relative sent me a watch from overseas.

Got a call from customs that they want to charge
several hundred dolllars worth of duty and sales tax on it.

I told them I couldnt afford to pay that, as I was a university student
and it was a birthday present. etc...

so the guy on the phone reduce the cost from $ 145 to $ 14.5

So I roll up to the post office and paid it.

I think a lot of times, u have to explain things in a elegent way without
loosing ur cool.... talking and negotiating can get u places....

Just a sugestion. Make a sticky about customs problems in diferent countrys:
In Portugal (EU) there is 2 things you got to know:
1- counterfeit is a semi-public crime, the brand must present complaint in order to become crime, and they will not bother for 1 watch, because it isn't suficient to make you pay, because buying replicas is not a crime, just selling them, and with 1 watch they can't prove you will sell it.
2- Customs can NOT open the package without your permition, this is crime that is punish by law and is public crime punished with 3 years in jail and 3500€. They open it because they expect you to answer by fax.

Now, if you want to buy outside the EU, i sugest one thing. talk to your dealer and if you really want to buy from him, ask his adress and send a empty package saying (watch for repair and return). keep the receipt and ask him to send it with "repaired watch". Pay him in 2 parcels one of 30$ (€, what ever) and the rest to make the price. If your watch is hold by customs go there with someone (to be a witness to the open package). Then show the receipt of the sent watch and the paypal or what ever of 30$.
Never let they think they know more than you!, and tell 1 "story", then stick to it like if its true.
That should make it, and they will make you pay 1,5€ for release the watch from customs plus the 21% (here) of tax over 30$.
Hope this helps.

Have you bought some watches with this empty package procedure?

And what about the first watch suck in customs, was it sent by regular mail or EMS?

I want to buy a 300usd replica, had already some good and bad transactions regarding customs in Portugal, any hints are welcome
