I have fallen in love with the ghost greyish-blue look of a 5513 that I saw a couple of weeks ago. Ive been seraching online and most sites want an arm and a leg for them. Is there a way to mod a gen bezel insert to that wear and tear.
Cheers

Bleach. Check out bonesey's how to age your vintage submariner tutorial in the tech section.

Yeah I saw that. Im having second thoughts about messing around with a $350 ebay bezel. (it was one of the cheapest gens)

Try TRF or VRM. They may already have one that's in ghost shape.

Maybe get a cheaper clarks bezel and practice with that? Or even just use the clarks bezel when you want the faded look and then you have the option of swapping in the fresh gen when you want.

go to a spooky haunted house and leave the bezel on a table in the middle of the dining room

No expert but I did get a nice outcome with:
Bleach, whitening toothpaste, rubbing compound, a dremel, various dremel bits and lots of patience. I did an NOS GMT Pepsi insert and it took a couple hours to get it how I wanted it. I used the dremel and some compound on a medium soft cotton wheel to take the gen finish off and then used whitening toothpaste with the dremel alternating between short baths in bleach to get the fade I was looking for. Probably could have saved time by leaving it in bleach longer after I buffed some of the finish off, but I was not going for the full ghost effect.
I tried just soaking it in bleach first but after an hour, nothing had happened. I think that is unusual but it was my experience.
I agree on buying a couple cheap inserts to try it on before a gen.
Last gen ghost fat font I saw for sale was 1k+.
