And he gave absolutely correct answer: "They don't belong on any watch that costs more than the strap itself. These straps don’t make your watch look cheap. They make you look cheap."

I think nato straps look good on vintage style Rolex watches such as subs and the Newman style Daytona. I had a Cousteau style DSSD that I sold a while ago that I wore a Nato strap on. Wasn't sure on how the nato strap worked on it, but I wore it anyways while I had it.

I like this guy!

"Not knowing which Lotus you bought, but judging by the fact that you’re trying to pair a watch to it, I can only assume it is one of the newer models which looks like something out of a bad 1980s science fiction movie, all fins and vents and plastic. In which case, I recommend some sort of garish Hublot Big Bang. Of course, if I am wrong and you do have good taste and bought a vintage Lotus from the era when they still designed tasteful cars, then the Reverso is a fine choice."

Sooo... you're OK with people, wearing G-Shock with diamonds? Matter of taste, right?
;)

" Also, I suggest that you consider a striped NATO-style strap for your watch. It gives a stainless steel watch a casual, preppy, all-American look that is truly divine. It also allows you to choose the size of your strap each time that you put it on, so you don’t have to worry about your watch becoming a tourniquet."

He is Jeremy Clarkson of watch world. He goes back and forth but he makes sense and he is funny. He did same with panerai. He use to hate them till he tried one on and he is mellow towards them now. I like reading him.

Funny thing, reading that guy's posts on askmen is what eventually brought me to this site. Although he sounds like a curmudgeon more often than not, he's pretty fluent in horology. So back to my story, I decided to buy this book by George Daniels called Watchmaking because the snob was waxing poetic about the book in one of his columns. The book was sitting on my desk at work one day. A coworker, who also happened to be a watch nut, noticed the book and we started talking. Turns out, he's a member here too and recommended I should drop in sometime. Well, I'm here now!
