Or maybe we'll have to ask OP to take a macro shot of the text under the balance. Might help us.

Have to leave for a while, but I'll definitely be back later to see what you have found out!

the watch is a 28mm rolex datejust. I am curious if 2836 actually is able to fit into that small of a case.

You guys have a knowledge which is unbelievably impressive?

How did you get to that level? I feel like I could go on reading this forum and other sources on the Internet for the next 10 yars and not reach this high level of expertise.

Did you need to get your hands dirty to make significant progress?
I've seen many movement schematics but shiiiiit they often look similar to me!

I guess reading won't cut it. Assembling a movement maybe? Where to start?

Disassembling?

I felt the same way as you until I decided to try to build my own watch. Bought a case and bracelet from one place, movement from another and dial and hands from a third source. I managed to mess up the keyless on my new movement and decided that this was the right time to actually learn something. So I bought a book to learn more about watchmaking, and I also started to read A LOT of threads on here about movements, keyless works etc. And yes, YouTube is a goldmine. That was a great start for me.
