Repair Movement & OM Logo

Hi,

Picture below is my Rep OM Seamaster.

Few issues with the watch...

Firstly, you may be able to see from the pic the OM in the OMEGA Logo is ever so slightly lifted from the rest of the logo, i.e. not stuck down. I removed the mechanism and tried to push it down, but without some adhesive it won't stick.

It's not a major issue, but when the light reflects on it, the slight defect is really annoying!!

Secondly, the watch performance is intermittent. So a few days, the watch works perfect. Then ever now and then stops! I shake it or re-wind is an it's ticking again. Then perfect timing for a few days and then stop! Most days, I wake up and the time is perfect overnight on the dressing table. Then out of the blue it runs out of power! Really can't put my finger on this...

Thanks,
Kiz
P.S. First pic posted to test the instructions! Hopefully works!

You need to find a decent Watchsmith preferably from this forum. I had similar performance issues with my PO and sent it to KATT and he fixed it and regulated it so it was spot on.

If there are any watchsmiths from the UK (ideally East Mids) let me know. Also, an idea of the typical costs...

Thanks,
Kiz

Can someone help identify my mechanism please? Since this is an an inexpensive Rep, I want to have a try and service / fix the watch myself. If someone can tell me exactly what this is, it will help me researching and studying in the right direction.

Ok, took the watch apart again.

The rotor spins freely clockwise, but clockwise I don't believe the mainspring gets wound when it's spins. I can turn the rotor with my finger anti-clockwise and feel the mechanism getting wound up. So on my wrist, I don't believe the automatic winding works, hence the watch loses power.

Is this a diy fix? Or do I just treat the watch as a manual and live with it?

Hello forum!

OK so been reading... I'm assuming this is a cheap unidirectional Chinese mechanism.

So my verdict is the rotor is too stiff in the direction that winds the watch.

Please can someone advise if this is something fixable by diy?

I've got most tools, also saw many YouTube videos on dismantling the mechanism.

So happy provided it's not a complete strip down, I should be fine.

Just need guidance from a watchmaker in the right direction.

UV glue maybe the ticket for the logo fix (with tape to hold it), but that's all I can provide.

Thats a standard 2813 nn or DG movement that you can oic up from ebay or cousins uk . Best to just replace as they are cheap enough to buy.

Woops...

Took off the rotor, then was taking off the back plate and ping! Cogs went flying...

Lesson, don't mess with something you don't understand!

And RIP! Tried to remove the main spring and ping! Whole spring came apart.

Looks very different to videos of 21J I saw and instructions.

Now, should I take a risk and buy a new movement?

One piece of advice. When you get your new movement. Don't set it dial side down like that on a flat surface. You'll break the seconds pinion. Looks like you on the road to learning. Good luck it's a lot of fun. Uk cousins sells the dg2813.

Thanks!

Is the DG2813 a direct swap or do I need to swap the date wheel?

In terms of difficulty, is it easy to swap? Once swapped does the movement need calibration?

Should be a straight swap. Read up on keyless works if you haven't too. Save that one for parts... If you do end up having to mess with keyless you might need the springs...

I've reassembled the mail spring and put all the cogs back in place... Back bridge is too difficult for me to fit... Lost a tiny screw now trying. Grrrr.

Giving up and ordering a new movement!

Final words on this Thread...

Anyone thinking that they an learn something from a cheap 21J (2813) by opening it up, think again. As I've now read, this movement is not designed for service. It's designed for binning and replacing. Looking at YouTube videos of other movement assemblies, the 21J is nothing like this.

I managed to almost assemble again, the main Spring was winding and I managed to move the hands to 6:30! But not life in the ticker...

Actually, what I did learn is, the tiny screws are magical, they can sometimes vanish from your tweezers, handle with care.
