Startup of new TC project!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello all!!

After long hesitation , I've started a little project of my own. As many of us, I started with some cheap reps, bought on vacation. Then I discovered this place and got interested in the different models, pursuing quality reps,...

I've always liked the classic ones so I had to have that Rolex sub 16610... and of course I didnt want just any rep, I wanted the classic version. So I stumbled on the TC V6 version. Had 2 wait 2 months on it and I'm wearing it for over 2 months now... Before starting this project, I was contemplating if I wasnt crazy putting this amount of money in it.. But then, I saw all these projects and amazing Frankens and I went for it..

So I'm just starting slow. I got my TC V6 and i bough gen Crown, Insert and Cystal from Sub007 here on RWI.

I stumbled upon SSTEEL from Finland. I know he's banned here ( I'm not too sure why, but I had a talk with him and I trust him ). His response is very fast and sends detailed pictures of everything.

If any of you guys know anything else I should do with the watch ( except installing new parts), let me know. Im still learning and discovering new things. Any suggestions are always welcome.

And now the pics... I will of course update if there are new pics available!

I did the exact same to my TC. I also swapped the movement to a Swiss eta. My main problem is the tinny feeling of the bracelet. It just screams cheap. When I pick up my gen gmt I immediately feel the quality in the bracelet. The TC is a big let down in this area

same feeling yesterday when I got mine, actually it is staying 48h in a baby oil bath, it is the first thing to do with a new rep bracelet. after just 8 hours this morning I found some metal dust on the bottom. I will post some pictures in my 3d tonight.

If you go on the gen Rolex forums the bracelet is described in the same way. So if anything it's very true to gen. As far as I'm aware the TC bracelet and clasp are one of the best ones out there for this generation of sub.

How does just sitting in baby oil creat metal dust on the bottom?

I will show you the pics later, obviously it is not due to the chemical effect of the oil but the penetration inside the holes which not only lubrificates but removes the waste of the making of process which got stuck in the bracelet preventing it to "work smooth"

The TC bracelet is of great quality compared to gen. Please don't compare it to the newer solid mid link bracelets of the ceramics.
Why would you soak it in oil for 48 hours? :D
Lube it with some skin friendly oil and work it a bit. Maybe wash it with hot water + soap and repeat the process. No need to soak it for days imo ;)

it is a common practice through the users and it works very well, it is also less aggressive than other chemical lube.
after the bath you just wash it softly with soap/toothpaste and and a toothbrush, it seems weird but it works!

I put mine in a heated sonic cleaner for 15 mins, then a different sonic cleaner full of a thin gun oil(I have this cleaning system for my hand guns). Dry it off with compressed air and presto, doesn't get any better.

The Baby oil bath is legit, I do it to all my bracelets, gen or rep, when they're new or dirty it definitely helps. The lower the quality the more slag comes out, the TC bracelet barely had any of than crap in it.
Cool project, that Sub's a keeper!

Used ssteel for my gmt build and was very happy with the service. Quick to respond and kept me up to date with what stage he was at.

I'm sorry to hear about SSTEEL!!! Seeing that he was banned in this thread prompted me to use a little google-fu to figure out wtf happeed. He seemed to have the respect of those who worked with him.

I know many of us on the forums turn to non-vendors as a resource to fix our pieces. Personally, I've turned to two non-vendors for help with my replicas. One experience was stellar. One experience not stellar at all!

Obviously the shadow watchsmiths are not being actively pursued by owners and mods... but they are not allowed to conduct business on the public boards. he must have just crossed the line!!!
