Only you know the answer. I wear a reps more often than a Gens. (Gen PO & Bond SMP)

Tough question, the Hydroconquest is a no-nonsense great automatic watch at +- 800 GBP. 1:2 doesn´t seem like a great bargain nowadays, while 1:4 or 1:5 not too long ago would be.
As long as You could afford the gen of the rep You´re getting, if You really wanted to, there´s no uneasiness either. With gens there´s always a healthy dose of realism if You compare the jomashop prices/ Conus with what they are asking You in the EU. Most probably if in Your shoes I´d end up buying an AP Diver, a Submariner and something else a bit more low profile, maybe an Omega 300 Coax rep. or a Seiko gen and feel well with it. Hey, looking at my collection it seems I actually did:)

Can't help you. I don't have any.

Besides, as has already been advised, it's your comfort zone, not ours.

There are lots of forum discussions you can read if you find them.

Buy a rep that you want then wear it like normal watch. Wear it with family and friends without flaunting. Act normal, do normal routine, you feel uneasy? sell it then buy a gen. Like what's said above, only you can tell if you want a rep or not, if you're comfortable or not. Good luck :D

1. If you're fearful of someone questioning the authenticity of your watch then wear a gen.
2. If you have guilt, wear a gen.
3. If you want to stretch your money out for more watches with what you have thinking that they will be 1:1 buy a gen.
4. If you can take life with a grain of salt. Wear a rep. :)

Every one of these threads I'm going to answer the way I just did.

OP, this is a rep watch forum so I think your question about " feeling uneasy" wearing a rep really needs no answer.

With regard to buying a rep or gen to mark a milestone, IMO that's totally how you feel about yourself, what the milestone represents in your life and your economic situation.

I've marked a few milestones in my life with buying a gen watch 2 times, gone whoring in Costa Rica, gambling and whoring in Las Vegas, got fall down drunk and whoring locally, got fall down drunk, attempted whoring and slept it off in jail, and had a few other very memorable milestone events. Just never bought a rep watch for any.

What is the point of wearing an expensive looking watch?

The quote I want to present an inflated view of myself to the general public is an honest answer and probably covers 99% of those reading these pages.

How fake are you and how fake to you want to appear to others. You certainly can have fun wearing a fake, fake watch, fake boobs fake car, etc., just decide if you will enjoy yourself more with an inexpensive fake or the real thing.

You don't have to answer here. Just be honest with yourself.

Just decide what amount of fakeness you are comfortable with, and admitting to yourself this level and see if that lines up with what is available at what price as a starting point.

If you are comfortable wearing a fake, fine, then no problem, go for it, If not, then buy a gen.

There is always the issue that the fakes harm the gen manufacturers, but few rep wearers care very much for the gen manufacturers health.

If there is an integrity question, answer these questions:

Why does it bother people when someone dresses up in a fake high ranking military uniform and walks around?

And why does it bother people when they see some spoiled 16 year old rich kid wearing a real Breguet tourbillon?

Same answer, yes? No?

Be honest in your responses to these two questions

Ditto. I cannot justify dropping 5k-10k on a watch. As much as I love the style of some luxury watches, I'll never open the wallet to buy one. I have no problem wearing a rep.

Yeah, that too...
While I own and enjoy all my reps, who says a gen has to be 5-10k or even 1k? There are plenty of gens, many around the $500 mark and some less. Great watches for the cost of what most good quality reps cost. There's Seiko ( not GS of course), Makara, Prometheus, Deep Blue, Steinhart, Bulova, Halios, and loads more.

I should have been more specific. The luxury watches that appeal to me are the Pam's, Rolex's, Zenith etc... Tough to find those in the price range I'll spend on a watch. I've got a few gen's such as Raymond Weil and Tissot. And love them, but there is something about the way the Pam's and Rollies look that make me want one. I just don't want to pay the price.

it's not about what you wear, but how you wear it

I wear my reps like they are real. Granted, I now spend a bit more to always get the best version just in case...and tend to focus on superreps(yeah yeah I know none of them really are).

The reason I can do that, is because the rest of me matches.

If you are wearing Vans, a tshirt, driving a busted Civic, living in the ghetto in a crappy apartment while you are complaining your water is out....you can get the real deal AP and people will still think it's fake.

If you are wearing Ferragamo shoes, a Moncler jacket, drive a Porsche, and live in a fancy house/apartment...then you could wear a canal street super cheapie...and people will still think it's real.

Here is the thing, watches are tiny. Noone can actually see the details when it's on your wrist...not if it's actually moving. Honestly, I can't even tell if a person is wearing a Seiko or a Rolex, until I am close enough to read the brand name...which is usually 1 foot away(I can recognize the style obviously). So a slightly different font or a 5mm offset might be obvious to you while you are looking at it on a giant photo that makes it look 20x bigger...but noone will ever actually notice that...not unless you are flashing it like it's real and letting people see close up photos while you brag on instagram. That's how you get called out.

Seriously...do this...grab a watch, then hold it out at arm's length. That's about where any person you'll be speaking with is going to be. As you can see you can't really tell any details. Now put the watch on the counter and stand up...that's about where the watch is going to be when someone comes by while you are leaning on a desk...again can't really tell the details.

So wear it like it's real. Even if someone notices that it's fake they won't call you out. Hell I noticed a guy wearing an Omega that looked like a cheap 21J version(well unless he left his chronograph running...but I don't believe it), since I actually had that rep, I knew what to look for...I noticed it sure...I went HMM...but I didn't call him out, because it was just not worth the risk, nor was there any point...and I forgot all about it 5 minutes later.

Noone cares about watches. Maybe 10% can even recognize the Submariner as a Submariner and not just a Rolex. Maybe 1% out of those, know what everything is supposed to look like off the top of their head. Maybe 1% out of those, will actually know the specific tells that make it a fake. And maybe 10% of those will actually get close enough to see the watch details. And maybe 10% of those will be asshole enough to call you out for it.

So do the math: you'll need to meet like 100,000 people to even find one that will know how to recognize a fake. And you better make it a million before one of those actually sees the watch details. And 10 million before you find someone who'd actually bother calling you out.

Seriously people just don't care
