Often the oyster bracelets are slightly squeaky when you first get them. If you like that (like me) then theres no need to oil but if you want a smoother feeling bracelet you're better off oiling it.

I asked the original "how to oil a bracelet" question. I had read here about people doing it before, but never exactly how. This week, a friend of mine had a Gen Datejust with a jubilee bracelet. It just felt so smooth, if that is how you would describe it, I figured it had to be the oiling of it that made the difference (plus it was a jubilee).

I oiled one last night with the WD-40 method, have to put it on the watch to see if I can tell a difference.

I don't think that gen bracelets need oiling. They are very smooth. I have noticed that some of the rep Oyster bracelets can squeak a bit. It goes away after a while.

This is another thing with Gens. They are pre-oiled.

I soak new bracelets in transmission oil over night and wipe them off, you have to sort of work the links back and forth and keep wiping as the oil seeps out but after your done the bracelet has a whole different feel to it, its (softer) if that makes any sense to you it just feels better on the wrist and it feels more like a quality bracelet.

By the way, I clean stainless bracelets first, there have been many posts on how to clean and oil a bracelet.

My PT Sub doesn't squeak, but the edges are sharper than a mofo. I wish this factories had a way to smoothen out the edges so that we wouldn't have to.

I sprayed my bracelet down with WD-40, and it seems to move around a tad bit easier.
