V5 42mm Crystal Gasket

My PO failed its pressure test with a slight leak from the crystal. It passed at 30m, but failed at 60m in a wet test.

I have the sunnydale crystal installed now, but it failed before when it was the factory crystal so I think it is the gasket as it has been removed and properly pressed in place.

I know I can get the gen omega gasket, but I'm told it doesn't fit without shaving it. In which case does anybody know the exact dimensions so I can get a generic one from cousins?

Or am I being too picky and should be able to at least swim in a pool with 30m WR?

Has anybody had any luck with WR after shaving a gen gasket?

I have all of my parts waiting to be put together except one so want to know before I go swimming in a franken and destroy it.

The franken will consist of:

Gen dial
Swiss ETA 2892 (when I can get a 1.79mm H4 hour wheel).
Gen hands
Gen crown
Gen tube
Gen HE valve
Gen datewheel
Sunny Crystal

I measured with a digital caliber , it should be 30.34mm (5th Gen 42mm PO, inner diameter)

I searched the forum on and found this thread, so am going to pass on what I learned. This gasket is what you need to for a V5 PO with Gen. crystal.

I tried shaving gen gaskets and several other modifications. If you buy a Gen Xtal for your 42mm PO you need to also buy this gasket. Your other option is to mill the case by .15 MM, but not even the best modders I know are willing to try this. Hope someone in the future learns from the exploits of myself and Kevin AKA "asimplefarmer".

Its true, the rep gasket failed on mine and the gen gasket i got from otto frei is too thick for the watch. Now it fits perfectly!

I took a dremel to the inside diameter of the gasket and it worked perfectly. Just very lightly around once or twice and refit. When I say lightly I mean I went around the entire thing in like 10 seconds.

Strange case must be different as the outer diameter of gen was too large for the one I tinkered with. Good to know it is possible.

I was trying to install a sunnydale xtal in my V5 PO. It wouldn't seat all the way. After pushing way too hard I modded the inner diameter of the gasket as described.

Which size of these gaskets did you use?
