So I've been here a short while now.
Made a couple of purchases form some members here. And now after doing some research for a while I have decided to take the plunge and make my first purchase from a TD.

Now it has kind of dawned on me that, being someone from the UK, we tend not to trust anyone or anything tbh.
Making a purchase from somewhere very far away in a way that feel a little unsafe, is something that goes very much against the grain.
However doing my research on here, has meant that I feel confident enough to do it and I'm not getting a klaxon like alarm bell ringing in my head.
And I thought perhaps if I started a thread where I go through what is happening it might help some other newbies, perhaps take that next step and purchase the watch they want from a TD as well.

I expect it has been done before but if it ok with the mods, I'll post up what happens and when.
I wont name the TD so that is it fair, I just thought it night be helpful for someone

After much searching through the TD's on here, I firstly settled on the watch I wanted. Then picked the Td I wanted to purchase it from based on what I'd seen on here.

I visited their section on here, followed the instruction on their how to purchase thread, and I got a propmpt email back saying yes the watch was in stock, what the cost of shipping to me in the UK would be, and that all I had to do was order through their websit and everything would be claculated and sent over to me in an email once I chose how I wanted to pay.

Now I dont have a credirt card, and my bank wont allow me to transfer money from my bank account to one in asia in USD.
So my only option is Western Union.

I got all the detail through about how to do that form the TD pretty quickly.

After setting up a WU account online, I found out that for some reason, I cant send money to China online, and that I have to go to a WU agent to do it. So I went to do that yesterday, and no problems at all. Although I did get 20 questions form the lady in the newsagents about what I was doing.

Telling her I owed a colombian drug cartel A LOT of money and they were letting me pay it off in installments through an Asian money laundering operation seemed to make her quiet...much to the amusement of the guy buying 20 Mayfair and and a bottle of frosty jacks.

I did follow up by saying, I was sending a deposit for a mountain biking trip I am doing in Asia, and that seem to satisfy her curiosity.
So if you would like a valid excuse and not inform someone you are purchasing a replica watch, something along those lines seemed to fit the bill.

Of course you don't HAVE to tell them anything. But I know that in my locality. most of the western union agents are in convenience stores, and some of the staff in these stores....like a chat.

Sending the equivalent of $500 to someone in a far off land, is something that may be "chattable".
So I came up with a valid-ish reason before I went in.

So after completing the forms and handing over the right amount of money. I was given a MTCN number which I have emailed over to the TD so they can receive payment.
And now I have to wait...which is going to be the bit where I'm sure any doubts or worries will arrive :)

I dunno...

It probably gets pounded into us truth be told. And probably only because media tend to fill there pages and TV shows with people who get ripped off by con men and marketing scams etc.

I suspect people see it and think. No I wont get caught out like that....

I see stuff on ebay, and I'll happliy buy something like a leather bracelet, or 1000 soap filled scouring pads from a seller in hong kong for £1.
But would I risk £50 for a Samsung 50" LED TV, from a seller in Hong Kong.

No chance.

We will of course happily pay someone, £50 less than a local retailer, cos they have a snazzy website ,are supposedly in the UK, (they could be anywhere) and have free next day delivery....because they advertise :)

It's all very wrong

I'm sure other nationalities are probably the same :)

I geuss some people dont like money going to businesses in Asia :)
