I have been lurking around this forum since a couple of months hoovering up information.
I placed my first order for a Tag Heuer Grand Calibre 36 with triangular shipping via UK. This watch seems to be a common choice for first time buyers but unfortunately it was intercepted by German customs. Anyway, the TD was great and offered a refund or replacement. I changed my mind and decided to opt for something more subtle as a replacement - Omega Aqua Terra or IWC Mark XVII. I still have to decide but most likely I will go for both.
ALE - I have read your PAM guide multiple times and it is tremendous. But I fear that I cannot handle such a watch, at least not yet!
