My Horology Tattoo Journey

Hello fellow enthusiasts.

I am pretty new to the forum. Thought I'd share my journey about getting a tattoo relating to horology here.

About me, I've been interested in watches for almost 2 years now. Definitely appreciate the need of a gentleman to own a fine timepiece as it exudes his taste and character. Yet at the same time, most commoners like us can't afford or don't see sense in dropping 5 digits on a piece of wrist candy, when we can spend lesser and get more varieties through getting reps (abeit high quality ones). Some of us might not have that extra cash lying around, be it for family or school etc, to have the luxury to spend on this expensive hobby. Whatever the reason we are all here for similar purposes. About 3 years ago I recently had a surgery done twice on my forearm due to a broken radius. After which when everything is all good and recovered I am left with a long scar stretching almost the length of my forearm. After much contemplation, and reading stories about how tattoos can help to hide nasty scars, I have decided to go ahead and get a tattoo on this area, so cover up that scar. And what better way than to get a horology related tat.

The wound has since healed up nicely leaving some keloid growth over the surgical cut, which is obvious yet not entirely bothersome. However, I find myself restricting to wearing my watch on my right wrist and wearing long sleeve shirts most of the time to hide the scar area. (I know how some chicks might dig scars but I just don't feel that way). Then one day I was browsing through the internet and came across some great tattoos that have a little horology theme going on, and was so tempted to get one over my forearm.

Here is a photo of something I am considering

Any advice/comments are appreciated.

I like it. Always been a fan of black and white, it ages a lot better than colour IMO.

I was expecting something like this

(Glad your arm is okay now, that would leave one gnarly scar!)

Hello. Thanks for sharing.

Thought chicks dig scars?

I wouldn't cover it up....I'd just tell people that I got it fighting pirates in Shanghai or it was a eff'ing huge shark or something Lol

Update: So after much thought and research I have decided on my design. I came across this picture online and the simple black and white, yet a little cartoony design has stuck with me ever since. So now the next step would be to consult local parlours in my area and look for one I feel comfortable with. Stay tuned...

I like how the gears relate to horology ie the inner workings and functions of the watch, the basic yet intricate parts that enable the watch to keep going and tell us the time. To me, the metal also symbolises the metallic parts that used to be implanted in my arm, and tha pain and journey I had to go through

The torn flesh tats always catch my eye and I think black is the way to go also.

I like the first one better than the second, but hey, its not my arm, they both look cool !

I have multiple tattoos and they all tell a story.
My colleagues was a bit surprised the first time they saw me in a tshirt as they had not suspected the ink on my skin. I have both my arms, back and chest but it is all covered during business hours under suit etc.
Go ahead and do what your heartshaped tells you, its your temple and if you want it covered with art, that is your decision and yours alone.
Make sure to post pics later :)
