Hey guys,

quick story,

So I got two 15400 Miyotas from Ryan, both black dials, got them today, took them out, OMG!, gorgeous!!!, specially the rose gold, I mean, you have to see how it shines, it looks amazing!
Ryan was nice enough to include the little screw driver for me to adjust the bracelets at home... I wouldn't dare doing it myself...

Took them both to my watchsmith, he's like "be right back...", takes them in the the back, 5-10-15 minutes, (I'm dying inside!), he comes out not looking too pleased, he's like "try this one (the silver)", Ok!, fits perfect!, then he tells me "my friend, we have a situation with the rose gold watch..., (I'm getting sick to my stomach), he continues, the little screws on this watch are STUCK!, I was only able to unscrew one, I was afraid to break the rest...". Oh maaaaan, seriously!!!!??, he's like "yes.".

So I'm thinking, this guy is full o cr@p, so I ask him to show me, he tells me to try it myself, well... He wasn't kidding, those screws had loctite drop in them... And then as I tried and tried, one broke, then two, then I'm thinking "I better just take this bracelet off and order a new one, because I love this watch... So I unscrew the left side of the bracelet, all is still good in the world..., then I switch sides and ooooh sh!!!!t!, I immediately feel that tightness... And so after trying for 5 minutes to unscrew the right side, I press a little too hard and the screw driver slips and a massive scar on the face of the watch!!!!, so my eyes turn bright gamma-green, I go into Hulk-mode and throw the whole watch against a wall, over, and over, and over, and 8 times more, until there was no more watch.

Game over.

I lost.

Gotta get another one, ASAP!!! :(

Quick tip, use some penetrating oil (I use Kroil) on a toothpick and drop it into the screw recess on both sides. Let it sit for a bit, cover all parts of the watch with a microfiber cloth and use some compressed air to blow the screw holes out (and drive the penetrating oil deeper). Then gently unscrew the screws, if you feel a bit of resistance reverse direction...alternating tightening and loosening. Also every time you are backing the screw out and feel some resistance take the time to apply some more penetrating oil on the screw/hole. I have had this happen to me while trying to swap my AP Montauk from strap to bracelet. After doing the steps I have described it backed right out smooth. Of course there was debris in the threads of the screw and threaded hole in the case which I proceeded to clean and blow out. Please read this and save a poor AP from a horrible fate again.

I know that you mean for the 15400. I recently got one from Ken and I couldn't take the bracelet off one side so I had to rig up something to hold the watch up while the rest of the bracelet took an oil bath. The ROO panda on bracelet I got however was super easy all the screws just came out smoothly. I find the screws on anything besides ROO to be a pain.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you are joking with smashing it against the wall.

damn you smashed the watch? I have the same one and it had the same issue, I couldn't get them out, thankfully a local watch smith could so mines good, its a beautiful piece the Rose Gold is, I never understand when they come up for sale on here why they dont get snapped up so quickly.

Wow the watchsmith must have panicked lol. Probably thinks you gonna bash his head in.

I'm just hoping the watch smith didn't think it was a gen... Damn, smashing a gen onto the wall multiple times... Shit

For what it's worth, my J Factory Schumacher rose-gold has the same issue: cap/bar screws are so locked that I'm afraid to add any more force for fear of damaging the screws, strap or the case. If I ever find the fucktard that threadlocked those screws I'm going to feed him the business-end of my fist!

Did you smashed the watch on the watchsmith's wall? Did it sustained any damage? Did he just told you that his service is free of charge and you can go home now? :woot:

LOL!!!! I love a reckless smash!

And you seem to take this whole situation with good humour (afterwards, not during).

Good on you. I think we should all follow in the OP's footsteps and make 13th February a yearly ritual: "Smash a rep day"

The TDs will LOVE it!!!!

That´s a fun and sad story in one ... anyway, if you face the same problem with loctite again, use a hairdryer and warm the screws and the loctite will loosen a bit.

10. Never use loctite
Now everybody sees why: Hulk-like rage ensues.

Would you do it to the gen??? Why treat our beloved reps like this?? Just coz you are rich and can have another one with the click of a finger?

ROFL

Not at you, just at the image I have in my head of smashing the watch against the wall, and the watchmaker freaking out over what he may have thought was a gem AP being destroyed.
