eBay - The worst place to buy a gen?

I'm on the lookout for a genuine Bell & Ross watch, so decided to give eBay a check (not the best place, I know). It wasn't long before I found the following -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bell-and-...es_Watches_MensWatches_GL&hash=item3cf1d53c4e

I realise that this isn't the first time people have tried this, but the ambiguity in his wording is almost hilarious. That fact that people have bid though, is shocking. Are people really so desperate for a bargain that all common sense goes out the window?

"I do not know if it is a replica or not although replicas still demand a lot of money"
Can you believe that statement?!

Resistor, the sad part of this story. Ebay probably is aware of this listing and doesn't give a rats' hairy arse.

I've sent emails to ebay in the past about listing scams and never even got a reply.

I usually only hunt gens on ebay that are not in the rep world... but it is a crap shoot to shop there

you certainly have to be careful. there are plenty of reputable sellers and jewelry stores that sell online with great reputations. however there are plenty of scammers out there too.

I reported it when I first found the auction. I don't usually make a habit of doing so, but this one was a doozy. I doubt eBay will remove it. They seem to be clinically inept at doing such things. That said, they sharp removed one of my auctions a few years back because my tattooed arm was in shot. I guess they don't like scantly clad women;)

I was once banned from ebay. I was forever reporting reps for sale, and this is when they were bad reps, but they couldn't give a monkeys. I started 'showing my questions' on the sales page, and these were statements saying I suspected the watch was a fake, and that ebay would do nothing about it. You would think the seller would be banned, but oh no, it was me. They still aren't concerned!!

why bother when revenue is based on sales volume?

ive never used ebay in my life to buy anything, the seller always has an edge over the internet.

It was actually Ebay that got me into reps since I bought a very good fake, at a reasonable price for a gen, there once. After a bit and some increasingly silly messages to and from the seller, realised it was a fake. Raised a claim, got my money back with no problem, and started looking at the rep forums!
Ebay is however invaluable for all sorts of low value things that simply can't be bought locally in the UK any more, now that all the small specialist high street shops have gone...
