I'm obsessed with ToroBravo's Blancpain Fifty fathoms dive watch…its gorgeous….waiting on my first rep (Project X Sub Rolex w/ NATO strap) and if it looks good when it comes in the mail, I think I'm going to buy the blancpain as well, I love the vintage look of this watch….the question is, it costs 488.xx with an Asian ETA movement, should I spring the extra 190xx for the Sellita? I'm a noob, but I've searched and searched for info on this and I've read a lot of conflicting things….any help appreciated.

It's a closed caseback watch. You'll probably never see the movement. The sweep of the seconds hand of the Asian and the Swiss will be the same. I could never justify the additional cost of a Swiss movement. I'd go with the Asian. Save the extra $190 and buy yourself a nice strap.

Seconded. It's a super simple 3 hand movement. Nothing to worry about with the Asian clone.

I have one with the clone and the date changes over exactly at midnight. Not sure what else you get better in the Swiss Version, (other than potentially a smoother hand winding feel.)

i say save it for a full service or a gen ETA!

I purchased the Swiss Sellita version. True, it's a closed case back but, to me, this movement feels much smoother when winding and setting the date/time than any Asian movement I've felt. It just feels so much nicer.

A smoother hand wind feeling for $190??? Heck, I could get a smoother hand job for much less! Seriously, don't throw your money away. The Asian clones are good enough.

It´s very expensive anyway, nice to save the $190, but if You want to get it now it´s the only way - and it certainly is good. You will need 2 Torx T3 drivers or a cell-phone repair kit with those on top and strap(s).
Lugsize is an uncommon 23mm. The strap it comes with is a bit light for the heavy and big watch it´s supposed to hold, longterm doesn´t fit a wrist more than 6.5 inch.
I fitted 2mm gen-spec 22mm Rolex lugbars because those were the ones I had and they are perfect, so it´s much easier to change straps (it´s got lugholes).
22mm straps are too short and not all 24mm will fit in - just received a Migliore strap which could have been a perfect match - no way to get it on without cutting it up (so I will use it on the PAM). Some strap-stories so You know what to prepare for:) - it´s gotten expensive on straps and still don´t have the right one.
Could have been wonderful - but it doesn´t fit (from Migliore)

very nice Breitling-shark and it looks good, but because of the reinforced sides it gets uncomfortable with the BP - or it bounces around if it´s loose

The super-comfortable Buffalo it´s on now. Buttersmooth, strong and comfortable - but the looks don´t match this watch, it´s for a vintage PAM submersible

also had ordered a Brady sailcloath very early in 22mm, it´s just too small. Brady 24mm probably is the obvious choice. Anyway the 22m fits the Seiko FF perfectly

and a size comparison for what to expect (the Seiko is about the size of a ceramic Submariner)

Honestly torn between the 2 - the Seiko is very agreeable to wear and I take it for swimming as well.

I would get the Asian one, Closed case back, no complications and easy to replace if it does break.

I'll just say that for my average, run of the mill rep, I'd go with the Asian clone, but, to me, this 50 Fathoms is one of my High-End Reps. Definitely a long term keeper. I wanted to have the best movement available.
BTW, I would hope you could get a hand job for less that 190.00 :D

I have it (the BPFF) with asia Eta and it's definitively one of the best watchI have in my collection. Extra smooth handwind and keeps perfect time. I don't see value for the Sellita here.

As far as opinions go, I seriously doubt the blue will be able to replicate the gens deep blue metallic look and different shades of blue.
It will probably just be a somewhat dull and pale kitchen blue, but I hope I´m mistaken and get very pleasantly surprised when looking
at the first members pics.
