Sub and yachtmaster bezel question

Hey guys, purchased a j12 from psychospike. It is great, the only thing that is annoying is the loose bezel. I am going to send it out to a watchmaker to fix stem. But I asked him about the bezel as well. He said I may need the retainer spring? I Can't seem to find any ym parts gen or rep anywhere. I did see that the sub and ym bezels are interchangeabl. So with that being said, would the parts under the bezel be the same? If so, can you let me know the parts under the bezel? Below is an eBay link. Would that work? Thanks guys

Is it loose in turning or loose as in vertical play? If it has gen construction then there are two things it could be. Vertical slop could mean the crystal retainer isn't fully pressed to the case. Slop in turning could be the spring needs to be adjusted or a new spring is needed. Less arc in the click spring will allow it to seat in the indents with more force. Too much arc lets it slip by. If it has some other construction then it would have to be removed to see what can be done to tighten it up.

It's lose in turning. It doesn't have any vertical play at all. Seems well made its the j12 version. From the reaserch I have done, the gmt II is the same size and maybe those oarts will work?
I'm Going to send it out to Katt to fix the keyless and go over it. I ordered this off eBay to send to him and see if it works.

What's the worst that can happen? Him pop it off, and this not fit? Worth the try to me lol. If you don't think that spring in the kit I ordered would work, do you have any idea where I can get one that would?

If im not mistaken, dont the Yachtmaster bezels rotate in both directions?
And i know the subs rotate in only one direction.
The GMTs in not so sure about.

First thing you need to establish if its gen construction?
If its not gen construction(which i doubt?) But you never know? ....it will have a wire that will hold the assembly tight against the case?
You will need to find a modder that has delt with these type of bezels before?
If it is gen construction ? You can pop the bezel of at 12>or<6 take the bracelet off..tape up the lugs which ever side your going to pry under the bezel?...be careful ? ...there are a small click spring in there looks like a small bent wire..the bezel ring and tension washer should come off...at this point? ...you need to refer back to Darth Alex post...on weather the retaining ring is fully pressed in place....usually you can see a gap between the case and retaining ring?...when you get this far?....refer back to this thread and share your findings?
And remember use a sharp pocket knife of some sort to pry the bezel off!....not a steak knife!..

Rudy will the YM have the click spring since it spins both ways?

Good point Dave !
No it shouldn't but you can never tell with these cheaper version subs!
But it should come apart just like any other sub that is gen construction ?
But I highly doubt it being gen construction ? I would say it's held together by a wire ?

I can't get the damn bezel off! I took bracelet off, and am trying to pry under it with the pry tool thin screw driver, everything that can fit. I seriously have a ton of pressure and it is not giving. I have seen many videos of guys easily popping them off, but this is not working. I am quite handy so don't think I'm an idiot!

Then it's not gen construction.
Those bezels pop off fairly easy

you're honestly better off just leaving it alone.
Id bet there's a hexagon paper clip holding it all together.
If you manage to get that off, it'll be bent all out of shape and will make it worse

Probably not gen, I don't know much about these yet. Just learning, from my reading the jf/j12 is the best one out on the market now, so I figured it was gen construction. But I guess not!

Yeah he's right you be better to leave it alone! It is a nice YM and you sure don't want to loosen the bezel anymore!
Your only choice would be sending to a moder that knows how to work on these bezels or fast fix? Would be to wrap dental floss around the bezel to stiffen it up!

Why can't the factories get this right? Is it really that difficult to make a bezel operate/rotate close to gen (I'm really asking, I don't know...)?

Loosely rotating bezel is my personal pet peeve with reps. I'm not sure if anyone else feels this way, but I'd be willing to pay extra for a YM rep model that was built with a tightly rotating bezel.

Im not an expert on watches, but the quality of this is really great. Close to my dads gen. But that my opinion. I would pay another 100.00 for a properly working bezel.

What modder would be good with bezels?? Sending it out to Katt for a couple other things but after that I don't mind sending it to someone else.

I often wondered this too but if you think about It from the "factory's" perspective, the way they do it is more efficient and more profitable I would think.

To make a gen spec case, it would be a few parts. Case back, mid case, retaining ring, bezel friction washer, click spring, bezel and insert.

The way the reps are made makes the number of parts considerably less.
Case back. Mid case, bezel assembly and insert. No retaining ring, no washer, no click spring. They combine all that to be basically 2-3 parts. Pop a insert and a crystal in and they're set.

Less parts to source and less parts to mess up.

The new ceramics are built pretty close to gen spec. I guess they realized people are willing to pay more for gen construction.

Your totally right, and it makes since. On a high demanded watch, they can definitely charge more to make their margins worth the extra few parts. What is the best rep sub that looks as close to gen right from factory?

lol did you really just ask that?

TC.

Gen spec case. every part on that case will take the gen counterpart except the movement (obviously).
a gen movement will fit in a TC case too in case you wanna drop some serious coin.

for ceramics, i think most of the higher end ones are built to somewhat gen spec. BK would be my bet if i wanted a ceramic. i think he uses noobs.
