I usually do not wear a watch at all to an OEM watch dealer. If I expect to try on watches, it is easier that way.

I understand both sides and besides it not like you wore it there specifically to show the AD. It just happened to be on your wrist the day you went I guess. I think most people on RWI already have an idea what to avoid . Anyone should be free to wear their reps when and wherever they choose to BUT still be smart about it...

Nope, he said it very clearly

I don't dare to go to the hi end brands with my rep.... I'd rather wear my Hamilton's or Ball to go to AP boutique.

I've been to Vegas 12 times, which is a bit excessive, I know.

With that said I've been to some of these "high end dealers" in Vegas before, wearing a gen Movado, and had a few links taken out while I was there so my gf at the time could wear it.

This particular one (who was an AP dealer) returned my watch to me horribly uneven, AND got offended when I asked for it to be straightened out.

My point is, the Vegas AD's he's refering to arent exactly the pearly gates of heaven, there is one on every corner.

I understand about it being tacky, maybe a bit dumb to wear an AP replica to an AP Authorized Dealer.

But making an actual rule about it, and banning people for talking about it is just plain silly.

Sometimes we all need to relax a little bit, and not chop heads at first blood.

1 year ago,you would have been gone and you would not be able to log on here again, just stupied.
Hope you learned about it.And in case you did not, we can discuss in Admin section.

For clarification,

I would have been banned for me personally breaking what rule exactly?

I'm not the OP of this thread, I never wore a rep into an AD, I simply said I thought a rule was silly, and even agreed that the OP shouldnt have done said activity.

There IS a difference between saying a rule is silly, and actually breaking said rule.

To all you WHINERS! I was merely making a point as to how GOOD this particular rep is! That's all and I was in NO danger of being "outed" Besides, We actually SELL and BUY REP watches on this site!!! Could anything I did be as remotely "illegal" at buying and selling??? You all need to get over yourselves! Take a deep breath and buy a clue... For what it's worth, I own a dozen or so $10k plus watches Rolex, TB Buti, Graham, AP, Bertolucci etc... However, I only travel with one "real" watch at a time and happened to have the AP 44mm with me and wanted to see if it was a s good as I felt it was. I didn't "show" it to anyone, but of course they noticed it on my wrist and it was girlfriend looking for a watch so They never had an opportunity to touch or even get a real close look at my wrist. If ANY of you think what I did was "against fight club rules" just get over yourself and GROW UP!!! I will casually wear any watch I chose into any environment I see fit... PA LEEZE

Look I don't really care how many Gens you have or really what you do outside this forum with your reps, but you shouldn't be wearing reps into AD, Why? Because your flaunting the pirating of intellectual property rights and IMHO is in poor taste.

It's out house and our rules!! do it if you want, but admin/staff don't want to see posts about it on Rwi ok!

Jesus what a Discussion :)
So i think i am at a Lucky Position then :D i didn't Need to Wear an Rep to or by an AD, because my good knowing AD Wear sometimes Self Reps :) No JOKE!
But that isn't the normaly Way... So he Wear it mostley before and After Work.
In there Shop they Wear the Watches that they Sell :) so this AD sell only 2nd Hand Watches, they are sometimes new but they got it then from insolvent Companys etc.

So for the AP 44mm let me Say the Rep isn't Bad But if you had the Gen in your Hand You will Notice Big Differents.
I had Test the Gen AP RG 44mm for 35k Euro and believe me the Gen Looks different.

but for checkout These i didn't Need to go to an AD with an Rep. :D

So you also don't Drive your Kit Car Ferrari to Maranello to Check how close They is to the Gen?!

That's the Same with the Watches, i think many People here forget what makes the Big different on Gen Watches?!

An Ferrari isn't an Ferrari without the nice V12 Engine.

Same on Reps. if You Open it you'll See the nice Far East Production (Movement) :)

Think about it ;)

OMG, boasting at an AD is one thing... and that's bad.
But just wearing what you are already wearing on your wrist is breaking a RWI rule walking into an AD?
I've been taking part in this same discussion before on here. It's not all bad gentleman. I have a good relationship with my AD where I'm a client buying gen watches. They know pretty much like you guys what I have while they sell me more of their stuff. I'm not telling you which AD, so I'm not telling them about RWI either if that makes our rwi society feel more relaxed. They call me if they have something they feel I might want to have a look at up close, just like all out TD's do here. Silly rule I say... aside from the flaunting and boasting bit. What exactly does everyone believe is going to result from this cause - nothing...
My well respected fellow Guru and I were on this topic a little while ago.
It is indeed wrong to go check out differences side by side with the gen, I believe most if us get that... Anyway, I didn't want to entertain this discussion again and look at me now - lol.
Have a great weekend gentlemen ;)

Christ both sides need to grow up. Following rules blindly didn't work in Nuremberg for the Nazis and flaunting reps is just silly. I use this hobby to test drive potential acquisitions, so coming from my perspective, this sounds like whiny teenager harangue. I'm with Danialq, let's all have a beer and relax so we can enjoy the boards sans lynching.

RE: Bringing reps to AD.
As i understand it: Its been said the large manufacturers KNOW about and possibly slightly FOLLOW our hobby.
That being said, bringing to an AD may show just HOW good they have become! The idea is not to have any major crackdowns on our hobby/or draw attention to it!!! Or issues at customs/delays!! Its already hard enough for our European friends....
Make sense now?

RE: Bringing reps to AD.
As i understand it:

we don't even make a dent in the industry, we at RWI are connoisseurs for finer reps. Customs do not distinguish this from other reps to start with but that's not even the point. It takes an extensive explanation that will explain to you that several layers of governing authorities in china, your own country, your respective postal services, customs and to a much lesser extend AD's don't give a damn about your reps because 'bigger' gains are protected among them and so-called persecution is something not one authoritive body wants on their hands because they will be the joke of the day.
to make a point in law one would have to make an arrest linked to truck- or boatloads of counterfeit cargo just to uphold this law for the outside world... or you perhaps. Not one government will taunt their trade relationship over a dispute that involves you stepping into an AD. Chinese government makes mint on these reps. Nobody is supposed to know, so I don't blame you if it doesn't make sense to you. Of course no Chinese official will come out and say this to you. There's much information on how 'perceived' laws are faked up by its own government if you are willing to look for it. I'm fascinated myself by this since laws aren't just massaged like this in china but even in our own countries.

I'm not even going to ask you if this makes sense because it takes awhile to figure it out. Take the time if you are really interested.
I will continue to pick my next rep in the meantime. I like a white ploprof I think. What's next for you my friends?

listen, I don't mean any disrespect to anyone. I believe I haven't offended anyone either, but if so, I apologize. I love my hobby and get hyped about little details about them because it's so much fun. Heated discussions like this are expected on some topics. I mostly read but sometimes I put my 2 cents in. If it gets response, I respond all in good fun.
cheers!
