Hey,

I just recently purchased another watch from pure time, yet another successful transaction. This is my second watch from them, this time I got a yellow gold day date ii with a champagne roman dial. Im not that versed in Rolex so to my eye the watch looks great. From my research though the most noted flaws when comparing the rep to a gen are 1. the magnification on the cyclops and 2. the bezel. I've studied both videos and pics on the web and I still am not sure if that is the case with my rep, but it probably is. So I am interested in modding it out. I was thinking about getting a real deal bezel, sapphire crystal, and maybe even an extra black roman dial for it. Does anyone know where I could get these parts and approx how much this project can run me? I am new to all of this, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks so much.

Here are some pics of the watch below:

Bud, IMHO its not worth the trouble. At thge end of the day its still good plated and that in itself is a tell. Also by the time you buy gold replacement parts it will break the bank. Its a great watch just wear it like it is and enjoy it. Just my thoughts.

@Subjeff Thank you for the advice. When you say "it is still gold plated and that in itself is a tell." Are you referring to the weight? or the coloring? or both? As for the weight that I don't mind, bc its not like i plan on taking the watch off my wrist to let someone inspect. As for the coloring that would be a concern, but from what I've seen the coloring seems to be pretty on point. Its just the bezel as well as the roman numeral markers on the dial do not shine like a gen from what i am told and can see. Lastly the only other tell may be the magnification? I'm not sure if it is right? Other then that what else are dead give away's while on the wrist? Thanks again.

Spencer,
in my opinion gold plating does not look like solid gold in color or texture. This is why I stay away from solid gold rep watches. I even mentioned this when I did a write up on my 16613. If it were me, I would just wear it as is. Just my thoughts.

IMO the biggest problem is the bracelet...Plating and weight

I tend to disagree with this opinion on most of the newer BP gold-plated reps. If it is not being held side-by-side with a gen, I doubt anyone - Rolex experts included - would be able to tell the difference.

Also, before anyone asks, the plating on my newer BP gold reps have withstood the test of time with zero wear in daily conditions (including super sweaty/humid at concerts like EDC and Coachella) for over a year now. Pretty impressive!!

Regarding your mods, I suggest wearing it as is for a while and seeing if you really feel the need to modify the watch at all in a couple months. The cost of gold parts will break your bank, and at the end of the day, the watch is obviously fake as soon as you pick it up. I tend to not mess around with my gold reps for the following reasons:
A) if they are deeply scratched (through the plating) there will be no passing it off as a gen - therefore it is junk at that point.
B) If the plating wears you may fall out of love with it. Even if it never leaves your wrist and nobody sees the wear underneath it, your personal knowledge of the worn plating may kill your love for the watch - not worth the risk if you've spent $1k+ on it (which you will if you upgrade it with solid gold parts).
C) The weight will always be a tell. Gen parts aren't ever going to help this. You would be amazed how many people have the nerve to ask if they can try it on - you look like a super douche if you turn them down.

Also, don't bother with an alternate dial as changing the dial on these is a Complete B**CH!!

Your rep looks pretty spot-on, as does the magnification. If there is an issue with datemag, its not worth fixing as nobody out there will ever know that it is off from gen unless you hold it up side-by-side with gen. If you can't even tell after knowing it *MAY* be off and doing a ton of research on it and scouring through pictures trying to notice the difference, how will anyone else in the world notice? The only discrepancy that I have heard of with Datejust II's is the crown having the wrong number of dots, or maybe an underscore on it or something along those lines. I am not sure if this problem is present on Day DATE II's like yours.

Enjoy what looks to be an extremely accurate gold rep!

A modded all gold plated rep? Whoa! You would be one of the first or the very first one to do that. I would keep it as is. It looks just fine with me. Most mods are done to all stainless watches AND a few two-tones. The bezel itself [gen] would cost you much, much, more then the whole watch. Once you get that very first deep scratch on your gold plated watch, you will know what everyone here is advising against. Your watch will turn grey in a decades hard use, and the only nice thing in it will be your solid gold gen bezel !! Enjoy your watch, it looks very good as is ! Just my humble advise here..................

Worth pointing out someone just sold a 116618LB Full Gold Ceramic Blue Submariner on RepGeek with a gen blue dial - It went for somewhere around $1200 - looked pretty awesome!

+1 everything mentioned. Also Color could look the part but once you put real gold bezel on it, there's going to be a difference and that along with things mentioned above huge tell. Spend the money you wanted to spend on mods on another watch that's been modded in trade section, if you want a good rep. Much better investment. Plus if you get other watches in your rotation, this one will last longer. Just my 2 cents

On the puretime website the color looks like piss of a sick cow :)
I am also interested in a gold day-date much appreciated if you could take some pics to see how color is in real life.

Looks dead-on the way that it is. Just enjoy it with the satisfaction that you don't have to sweat dings and scratches to your $26,000 watch like Gen owners do. You can just buy another.
