Hey guys,

Yeah... I realize MBW is wrong in the subject line (autocorrect...). Is there any way of fixing that?

I'm in a real bind. I'm taking possession of an MBW 1680 Red next week and I'm contemplating whether I should gut it and convert it to a 5513.

1680 Red as is:
-MBW case
-Gen crown/ tube
-Gen crystal
-CWP insert
-Rep 93150 + 580 end links
-ETA movement (need to confirm if its slowbeat when I take possession)

Anyhow, I like the 1680 look (white better than red), but I seem to be leaning more towards the 5513. I normally prefer date watches but theres something I'm loving about the simple clean look of the (after 83) 5513 dial. I was thinking about throwing in a gen dial in my MBW case and matching up the lume on the hands, alternatively if finding this dial with the applied indexes is too hard I was going to go with Yuki's matte dial with painted indexes. Re. crystal, I'm thinking of picking up one of Clarks super dome T19's. Down the road I would find myself a gen T19, along with a gen insert.

Note: I'm already aware about the gen dial feet positioning and cutting requirements. I've gone dial shaving and feet cutting route before. However my understanding is the 5513 dial shouldn't require shaving around the diameter.

Whats do you guys think? Any feedback or help would be appreciated. Maybe I should keep the friggen thing as is?

Looks I'm going for on the 5513:

I'd keep it as a 1680, but that's just me...If you must have a 5513 I like Ingod44's dials better than Yuki's.

I'm biased for the 5513. Clean and vintage elegant. For 1680, I agree that a white dial is more of my taste than the rare red one.

The best thing is build the 5513 up and then sell it to me! Really... :)

I vote to keep it a 1680. I think if you go to sell it they are more preferred because of the date. Do like I did and just buy both! Lol

I vote seeing as your at a cross roads, find an already franked 5513 and sell the 1680 to me :)

if your keen there are a few 5513 dials around on the bay around $500-$800 and occasionally they pop up on VRF...

tough choice I love both...

good luck!

I use to like the red accents and sub brands. I still do on my Omega Seamaster chronograph, but on Rolex dials it doesn't do anything for me.

I considered swapping to a white dial for the 1680 actually but I've been leaving that in my back pocket as I'm trying to stay away from sanding dials. I really think it's the red I'm not connecting to with my current build. We'll see if my point of view changes once she's in.

Thanks for the advice brother. It's really starting to sound like the 1680 is them preferred choice for most of the group. I haven't shopped the pricing for either models but I would assume the same.

Thx Jordan. I've looked on eBay and there's certainly some options for gen dials. I'm looking for "whiter" hour indexes so most of the affordable eBay dials would need a relume. That's where Yuki was a good option as he stocks white lume dials already. I would just have to find a matching set of ETA hands.

My vote is 5513, maxi plots. Gotta thin out the CGs and lugs a bit on the case though IMHO.
