I suspect this may have been linked to before but, for those of us who have not seen this. Makes you smile.

Why do people buy fakes and what does it say about them?

Here's what buying and wearing fake/counterfeit watches really says about the wearer:.

  1. Isolated - Certainly there are no clubs for owners of fakes. No comraderie among fellow owners. No sharing of tips, tricks and performance issues. No assistance with operation, warranty or repair issues. Fake buyers are on their own with nobody to care, nobody to help and nobody to compliment or encourage them--except for the occasional person you might encounter that doesn't know enough about watches to realize you are trying to 'impress' them with a cheap counterfeit..
With nearly 70,000 members maybe he don't know about RWI :courage:

There are 190000+ members on wus.
70000+ on RWI.

If you think about it, there is sizable amount of people who own good replicas.

-1000. We do not go by "FAKE' watches, we call them "REPLICAS".

We are not "ISOLATED", we are worldwide and proud of our reps, frankens and homage pieces that are as close to "GENUINE" watches as close as possible.

:hehehe:

They proudly point out that the section on counterfeits was updated on 4/2005! Think god the info is up to date.

We may lurk in the darkside, but that glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel seems to be getting brighter and brighter with every version coming out. Keep on repping !!

I think John at lion city watches accidentally sent me a gen diver last week instead of the v5 I ordered. :D

Actually people who buy reps are far more informed on average about watches than those who buy cookie cutter gens

Very very true. While I was on wus way longer, I learnt more shit here.

Yup, we are all more informed about Gens here then the average gen owner. Most don't know jack about their watches. They would buy a rep if that rep was put in an AD's display window! ...........when you reverse-engineer any product, you really get to know it.

That's the hardest part about this whole replica thing is finding a support system. Man what I would give to have a place to hang out and talk about replicas and get advice on different models. Where could I find something like that......

Maybe someone will create a forum for people like us one day. If only we were that lucky....

Would be interesting to know the percentage of people who own quality gens and who also own reps.

My problem is seeing enough value in a gen vs rep situation to dish out the extra $5-20k the reps I've had are too nice to justify another gen purchase.

Reverse engineering what? Are you making FAKES?
