Hi Everyone,
It seems odd that my first review in a Rep forum would be a Gen watch (hope i'm not breaking any rules) but i felt that it was appropriate because it was my search for replicas which led me to finding, falling in love and buying this beauty.
Bear with me whilst i tell my long winded story...
My history with replicas started poorly with purchases of so called "good" replicas from the 4th floor of the famous MBK shopping centre in Bangkok. I remember a rep white gold Daytona, a B&R with (wrongly numbered) B&R numerals and a silver dial Carrera Chrono. The first 2 hardly saw service and started to keep bad time shortly, and the latter did some daily wrist duty until my love affair died when condensation formed in the Tag after being caught in the rain during a golf game.
So i swore off Reps for years, relying on a teeny quartz perpetual calender Seiko, which was the first watch i ever bought myself. It's still in service 20 years on and will always be with me. I'm sentimental like that
:.
But i never forgot how much i liked that (wholly unreliable) Daytona Sec@6 White Gold model. It's 40mm profile fit my super skinny wrists perfect and it just looked awesome. Just love silver dials!
So recently i began looking for Reps again and looking for that white gold Daytona led me to other watches, including Carreras... again. Doing internet searches, i than chanced upon the Tag Heuer Jack Heuer 80th Birthday Edition Carrera. It was nearly love at first sight. It had an awesome vintage-look starburst silver dial and the 41mm case seemed like it wouldn't overwhelm those twigs i have for wrists. And so began sleepless nights, dreaming of the watch... I sense of wanting but also a slight despair as i assumed that, with a 3000 limited run, i would never own one.
I was wrong. I confessed my infatuation with the Tag Heuer Jack Heuer 80th Birthday Edition Carrera (let's call him "Jack" for short), to a horologically inclined friend with an AD sales person on speed dial and he made inquires on my behalf and surprisingly, it was available! I called another friend with another AD sales person on speed dial and he too had it available. So this limited run wasn't so limited after all... and the price was not crazy. I had to pull the trigger. After clearing with the wife, i went ahead and bought "Jack".
So that's the story about Jack & me (my name's not Diane!).
Well, i was never going to be one-watch-man. The pursuit and purchase didn't cause the desire for reps to abate, so i have been faithfully trolling the threads and i must say, i am very impressed with this forum the more i go. This forum has informed, inspired, defined my tastes, created desires, and tempered expectations. As of now, a few reps (all non-TD) are either in my possession or are on the way.
Ever present in the forum are the beautiful photos that forummers create. They create desire, want and causes one's heart to beat a tad quicker. It is indeed "watch porn" and i love it in all it's glamourous iterations. And i wanted to commit mimicry so badly!
So what better way than to give back to this wonderful forum than to combine one waning hobby (photography) with a rising one! Dusted off the DSLR, slapped on a macro lens and here are the fruits of an idle afternoon's labour:-
(Most of you would have probably just scrolled here)
Let's start with some "stock" shots...
To commemorate Mr Heuer's 80th birthday, the "80" on the inner tachy bezel is in red.
The caseback is engraved with Jack Heuer's signature and his family crest (sorry for the smudgy bits, had to 'shop out the serial numbers).
The red leather backing is simply beautiful. Being new on the wrist, the strap is still on the stiff side (actually i only wore it once in about a week and a half of ownership) but i'm sure it will soften a tad.
In keeping with the vintage style, the crown and deployment clasp are emblazoned with "HEUER".
And on to some "mood" shots.
Gee... all this photography is hard work! Sweat pouring off my brow. It's finally done! Now Jack & I can have an expresso!
So that's it! Hope you enjoyed the write-up and especially the photos! Thank you for taking the time to read/view it!!
Here's what Tag has to say about the watch on their website - http://us.tagheuer.com/en/home#/en-luxury-watches-carrera-calibre-17automatic-chronographjack-heuer-edition41-mm-silver-sunray-effect-leather-bracelet-cv2119-fc6310
Here's a few reviews i found:-

And here's the man himself being interviewed about the watch! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgFctymLCZc
Last thing i wanted to say is that this photographing watches thing ain't easy. My amateurish efforts don't even come close to some of the pictures i've seen on this forum! The experience tells me alot about how to avoid reflections, wiping off the smudges and dust before every shot, etc. But what i am at a loss in is how to make the composition better, better backgrounds, etc. Any criticism and comments are most welcome on this!
Thanks once again!
