1st off, i'd like to again thank kindred666 for his kind gesture. we met up earlier today&thereafter, i proceeded to a local leathersmith to have the strap re-stitched to black&gave it slight polish. some additional info, its a HKtan strap made at least 1.5yrs ago. &here're the pics.

i do like how the horns are more pronounced&all compared to the rep strap. BUT my only 2 gripes is the fitting of the strap to the lugs, which unfortunately, i cant do much about. &that the cutting is a lil off, imo. dont get me wrong. i love e strap&i'm not complaining. they're just my observations.

which brings me to another variable in choosing a future strap. how the strap fits to the lugs. i like how the rep strap fits perfectly on the lugs, no odd/weird gaps, no protruding leather, etc.

but it seems like i've seen a couple of strap-maker's products all have this fitting issue.? these, from pictures of other members' posts of theirs. or is it something that varies frm strap to strap.?

Yes, that was my gripe about 1.5 years back, thereafter proceeded to order from a few more strapmakers but being extremely particular at mainly the plots area, squarish or rounded, width at case, the taper from 24 to 18mm and the quality of the horn, you kinda feel everyone had their pros and cons which led me and some members like BMW to only use OEM (Back then only AP bands were the only ones with inserts), wasn't going to risk again considering the price and their hornback.

But the good thing is, we can now always pass this around for members to have a actual feel of the fitment and quality to manage their expectation and needs before making the purchase, in a way some of them are not exactly cheap.

i'm sure some like orloff, migliore&others may have improved, now that they use inserts.?

mayb the other more experienced with these makers, can chime in.?

i'll snap pics of what i mean tomorrow or after my 57th street arrives for better clarification.

cheers!

OEM metal inserts do make a major difference and gives a firmer hold especially whilst on the wrist.

OEM inserts

Of the few strap maker made hornbacks I have handled myself, and many photos of straps on forums, the horns look awful.

The OEMs strap horns look natural and beautiful. I have wondered are they also cosmetically enhanced?

hi masmannan, obviously our views of how hornbacks shld look, differs a whole lot. &fyi, the HKtan strap in my current possession is a real hornback. not artifically enhanced&all. my leathersmith has comfirmed it.

but thanks for your imput! :)

Yes, the red stitch hornback is OEM. But all strap makers can replicate it. It's a lovely combo for AP Panda.

One thing to note Chromed is that on a smaller wrist size, inserts become all the more important as it prevents the free play of the bend outwards at the lug plot.

Masmannan.

I've completely disassembled and reassembled a gen and can tell you they are heavily processed. They take a lot of work and finesse to make. The reason being, is that generally the horns are found in a really hard area of the hide that does not easily lend to strap making. The horns are also in sequence, there are no single horns by themselves.

Some makers do a good job w/ the horns, while others don't. AP Bands look like tumors under the hide IMO. They do not use the proper portions of hide. When I make mine I try to use the tiles with the under developed horns, and raise them up a bit from underneath.

By the way, none of this is a sales pitch. I'm not even taking orders for AP straps anymore. I want my life back.
