When I got my explorer 2 I felt like I did't want to even walk around with it, like it was the holy grail or something. Within a few days I was a little more comfortable, but still I could feel myself keeping my left arm guarded so as not to hit it on anything. Couple more weeks and I'm wearing it everyday 24/7 except when I'm working because it could get destroyed at work. The other day I was walking from my kitchen to the livingroom. WHen I passed the dining room I felt and heard the most teribble, devastating, make your hair stand on end, the end of the world sound. I hit my watch on one of the dining room chairs. THey are metal. I hit the crystal. and I hit it hard. I knew without a doubt that it was cracked. Didn't want to look at it. My girlfriend and both kids heard the sound and ..................All was silent. I gave it to her son and he looked at it,,,,my head just down in my hands. "Good news, it's not broken" WHAT? I inspected it and not a scratch or anything. Brand new condition still. I cannot believe it. I have hit watches on things much lighter than that and scratched the hell out of them. I love this watch. Thank goodness.

Anyway, how careful are you guys with your watches? And have you had any mishaps like mine that turned out bad?

Oh the timing. As I clicked on your thread, I banged my 288k on my glass desk...damn the bad luck. Now there is a microscopic nick that no one can ever detect except for me. It's your fault and you owe me a new 288k case. LOL!!

I buy watches to wear it. I don't wear any watches, while I'm in my workshop, there even the most indestructible watch would be a piece of metal scrap in an hour. But when I'm not working - I do wear watches, and I don't really care, if the watch will hit the wall, table, chair or my wife's head. (Just kidding)...
But I wear only cheapies, and only if we go out, then I wear good watch, then I'm trying to be lil bit more careful.
:D

This resonates with me..since receiving my first rep. I seem to be very careful, which is difficult since I'm in sales. My biggest fear is magnetizing it as I carry an iPad with a Smart Cover (magnetic) and using it all day long.

I wear what I want. I like what I want. If people ask I tell them and direct them to here :)

Whenever I bump into something, the watch is almost always involved. It's the Swiss voodoo. They put it on all the reps.

One more reason I wear vintage, though: you can buff the scratches out of plexi. Or replace the whole crystal for <$10.

I used to be like that until I remembered how much these things cost, and how cheap it would be to get a replacement sapphire sourced through these guys. It's a great community, and there's tons of help, don't worry about the watch, there's a LOT of threads and help to get your watch back into its original condition. But I do only buy watches these days that have a sapphire, since it's a LOT stronger. Even gen swiss luxury watches are using chinese made sapphires lol, so you're getting the same QC in that aspect :p

That's one of the reasons why I mostly wear my reps and kept my gens in the safe and only wearing for formal occasions. I dropped 1 watch at height which totally smashed the glass and another one went into water.

at the end of the day it is a rep watch, i wear my daily beater usually on a nato strap because im working from a desk majority of the time and it also is less flashy at work, but on weekends and outings i wear any watch i want and try to take care of it without being ridiculous about it. went paddle boarding and snorkeling not too long ago with my rollie gmt rep.

I'm careful with my watches - gens and reps. I like nice things and like to keep them nice but accident happens. You get scratches here and there but you'll live and go on with your life.

Thank you all.
ikugan sorry about that.

Luthier, I have in fact banged......um, my watch against Michelle's head a couple times. Accident of course. There were just too many distractions happening.

I am careful, but not ridiculous anymore about keeping my arm guarded when I'm walking around or doing chores around the house or even playing with Benji. He is very rough in play. I have minor scratches on my explorer clasp, but that's it, and yes, if it did get completely demolished I would just get a new one.

+1

My watches are like magnets and are attracted to door jams and other stationary objects. With vintage it just adds character to the watch, so I'm not too worried about it. I do have a smudge right in the center of my cyclops on my 1680, however, from hitting the edge of a table in just the right position.

When I had just canal st reps. my left arm banged into everything and led with whatever watch i was wearing. Now with the quality of these reps I've developed a 6th sense about where my arm is swinging as I approach a door frame, chair or any other threat. When that happens I instinctively tuck my arm to my side...almost to my back. Very few collisions.

Hell, as long as I have a pair of gloves on, I'll still wear it to dig a hole big enough for 7 barrels. :)

I'm only careful wearing my ap diver and pam 360 as the diver tends to scratch easily and the pam 360 I am unsure of the dlc/pvd or whatever it is and how it will withstand the brutal daily beatings. However for my EXP II Pam 111 Gmt I wear em and if they get scratched they get scratched no problem

I've been watches and jewelry for years. By instinct you learn to be careful with what you're wearing.

I agree...somehow you are just instinctively careful....I want my stuff to be perfect...

Doesn't always work out that way, but I find I keep my stuff pretty damn nice without putting a lot of thought into it...

Either you value your things or you don't...
