As for the bezel:
* the attachment method with the plastic ring is a joke. Genuine is a full steel ring that squeezes the crystal against the rehaut.

My 1680 from Trevor came with the steel ring...

Finally picked up this 1680 from Trevor. Smooth transaction for the most part. Having taken the bracelet off, I see no markings in between the lugs (ooops boss, forgot engraving...worked 70 hours last week). Not sure if this will bug me but we'll see. Lines on watch appear to be nice overall. Bezel is not super tight but not super sloppy either. I will probably send it of to have it lightly modded. If I do send it off, I'll have the bezel action stiffened a bit. I will also have the dial, hands, and pearl relumed to match lume instensity as well as have rep 702 crown/tube installed. I went with A2836 which I know is not accurate but which I prefer. In terms of modders, I have had a terrible experience with two west coast modders in the past and would like to try someone new. Any suggestions?

I can't recommend this vintage model enough. It's a must have. Here are some pics of the watch head.

Ryan's is the Puretime version I believe. Trevor's is the cartel version. If you're planning on doing minimal mods go with Ryan's as it is the best out of the box 1680 rep out there, especially with the Swiss reconditioned 2846 which is close to the gen beat rate.

If you're planning on playing around with mods the go with Trevor's. It'll take gen parts much more easily, but suffers from annoyingly stubby crown guards. I've had both - check out some of my older threads on each of them...

That case looks pretty good. I may have to hit Trevor up for a watch. I want to build a decent 5512 but all I need is a case/bracelet

Ok. I've been ignoring my 1680 for a long time now. I took it out of the box and started wearing it to try and fall in love with it. What I realized was that it just looked too new. So I read through Bonesey's vintagizing thread again. Long story short, I faded and sanded the bezel insert some (maybe too much, we'll see) and sanded the case and band a little. I like it much better now. I still don't like how yellow the dial markers are. I bought some more paint to try to paint them. I'm afraid I'll muck it up though. Just in case I do, does anyone know if this dial from Yuki will fit the trevor 1680?

Also, what bezel insert should I get? I'd like to have another one and just sand the shine off of it to compare which I'd like better.

Thanks guys! Love this thread!

I hear you re: the yellow dial markers. Don't forget the gens get pretty brunescent too depending on how old they are. Check out these two beauties from TZ UK...

I've left my PT 1680 out in the sun for a few days to fade out the markers a bit. Still pretty luminous for my liking, but perfectly in keeping with a mid-70s Sub...

Yeah. I don't mind a LITTLE yellowing. But I'd like it to be a little more white.

Looks nice matey. Bezel insert looks just fine to me. Check out some gen yellow dial marker action I sneaked from TRF...
