Gens are going up like nobody's business so we are still paying under same percentage that we paid before(and before me discovering RWI). Example being when omega seamaster were available around 2500 bucks, good rep of that watch was 250. Now that they cost 4000-5000, good rep of that is 350-400. So quality has gone up during this time but we are still only paying less percentage wise than we did before.

some of the noobs that come aboard have been scammed by those "swissreplica" type
sites that charge $1000 (one thousand) for the same rep we buy here for 200-300 bucks! I know this first hand as I was one of those dumb asses that got taken 12 years ago when I paid a grand for a "AAA" grade "swiss made" ETC ETC.. there I admit it !
so for those guys these prices are bargains! But yes I do feel like the dealers or the factories are "price gouging"

It is more like PRICE FIXING in my opinion.

EVERYTHING is getting expensive, not only reps and gens.

Life in general is becoming unmanageable (just look at health or education).

I guess it is just a reflection of the bigger picture!

I can agree on that, everything has gone insane, something to do with the zombie attack coming soon.

To answer the posters question, yes we are seeing way overpriced reps for what we recieve. Now I know some of you will say the movements have improved (I disagree), some will say were getting more accurate reps (maybe in some cases), and some will say the reps we see now are better quality then a few years ago (I disagree).

It really depends on what you qualify as better. Years ago we could buy a very good rep with a gen ETA movement, get a very solid rep, and pay two to three hundred. Now guys pay twice that and recieve a cheap ass clone movement, pearls are still falling off, bezels are still wrong, and in many cases the watch case is still wrong. The game remains the same where version after version is released to get the customer to buy the same watch over and over and over, always hoping the newer model will be better. But the fact remains something is always wrong even though were led to believe its better.

But who is it better for?? The factories, the wholesalers, the middlemen, and the dealers, thats who.

Agreed.

Some day I'll be back in the rep game... Maybe. Can't say I'll ever be a deep as I was before though. Too many headaches, disappointments and lost money.. The community and interesting projects is what keeps me around. Waaay more interesting posts and genuine members on the rep forums!

You live in the wrong country ;) Free education + university, excellent health care. No wonder this country is flooded with "economic migrants".

WOW! Mind telling me what country you live in???

I agree with you about the quality of reps.
I mean, roughly 7 years ago my sister paid $100 for what we now consider a Canal St. replica (not really THAT bad), but at the time that was one of the best available.
Today that is considered pure shite.

$100 watches are still available, and actually, you get a LOT more for $100 nowadays... so perhaps it's not so bad after all!!

I've thought so, but I keep hearing that it's the factories charging the money and the dealers barely make anything. Who knows what to believe.

There are still cheap reps for a good value out there though. I think we're getting pickier. Just like a television that's twice as expensive as the one you have already, it's never going to be twice as good. Same with the watches. We keep graduating as a forum to higher and higher end reps and paying twice as much for them for a 10-20% increase in quality. It's our own fault really.

I can still buy a Narikaa PO for half the price of a 5th gen PO, and there's no chance that the 5th gen PO is twice as good. Beginner Panerai 111N watches are still $150 today. Somebody just posted a crappy $35 Silix sub that, um, well, never mind - that one looked like crap. But the cheaper choices are still out there and they're still decent.

Agreed....
Its all about expectations, I rarely spend over 200 bucks for a rep watch, I mostly buy 21J ( Ult sub, AP white diver, high beat UPO), A6497(Tag Pendulum) or dealer specials (PAM's 092 -A7750, 026K A6497 17J). Most of these reps will pass the eye ball test from most of the general public. I try not to get caught up in the latest, greatest Noob or H fac release (not always successful-waiting on a 372 in mail..lol) It's all a circle jerk, there will still be flaws or tells and there will always be another Ultimate/Best Version. If we keep paying 300-600 for them and a new improved version comes out, they will keep raising the prices. IMO

I used to buy more reps than i'm actually doing just because of the high price. And i can't undertand who states that this is due to the fact that they are getting better: i bought my first rep years ago and had top quality and nice price; and being closer to gen dosen't mean an increase of costs. Just think that the hype of reps made the prices increase. Shame because instead f buying 3/4 reps year, i'll maybe buy 1.

Ah, forgot to say that it was even less painfull to risk to loose $200 in case of customs seizure; actually customs became tighter and don't feel that comfortable to risk the loss of a $500/600 watch during shipping....

Prices were pushing high, especially earlier in the year with stuff like the mark xvi with no bracelet and crappy strap for mid $300. At the same time we've seen some ok ish prices come out of late...noob explorer II and noob PO LM (crooked dial issues aside) where the build quality has pushed up and the watches remained under the $300 mark on bracelet.

What is disconcerting is the price of so called eta vs clone options (+$150ish for eta above clone).
I have a feeling (not sure if true :)) that the dealers really don't want to bite too much off the hand that feeds them atm. AP Chronos were always over priced, and they've cashed in well on those, but basic 3 handers were starting to push to $400 upto last xmas and complaints on pricing have arisen....and have subsequently wound back a bit on some models. Will be interesting to see how pricing progresses with new stuff, Tudor BB etc.

Overall quality has improved a bit compared to a few years ago, better constructed bracelets, better lume, better case finishing...but is it worth double the price, I'm not so sure.

Really how many watches can one person have who needs 15 replicas with all of the money spent you could have had a gen 1:1 with warranty and worth something if you ever needed to sell it if an financial emergency happened

The forums are 10-20% of the market for reps at the most if you average out all the brands, maybe 1% of Rolex but 30% of AP and PP. The vast majority of rep sales esp for the big brands, Rolex Omega Breitling are for the cheaper models and they sell all around the world.

As we are becoming more demanding and want better quality the makers will raise prices not just because hopefully they are using better skilled workers and QC, but also because the opportunity cost is higher in diverting resources away from the mass market cheaper reps to the more specialised and expensive reps over $300 that only we will buy.

It's not your money. You don't tell us how to spend it. If I want to light it on fire, I can.

Thats right! If he wants to give me his money (wink wink) he can. Of course, if i got more money, I'd probably just buy more reps. Vicious cycle
