Awesome looking Dweller there Q5. I hope mine turns out that good. I take it thats a BP insert, really looks decent as well, nice pearl good font etc. I got gen for my build but wondering whether to sell it if the BP is this good.

Is this your new daily diver?

Q5, your SD looks amazing. I am curious about the choices in mods. First off, did you buy the "New Asian 25J" or the A2824 version of the watch? I am assuming you left the factory movement alone, so you the H2 CP didn't bother you.

Hands and Dial: You went with TC hands, but passed on the TC Dial? Did you feel adding the TC Dial wasn't worthwhile?

TC DWO: You also upgraded from the factory DW to the TC DWO. Was the upgrade to the TC DWO worth while? In the macro shots I have seen, the BP DW looks pretty good. I am sure the TC DWO is better, but without the cyclops I am not sure the upgrade would make a noticeable difference.

Crown and Tube: As for the crown and tube, did you go with gen or use the TC crown and tube? Are the crown and tube for the the 11610 and SD the same? I have done some homework and they certainly seem to be the same... but just want to confirm. I am running to do this mod since I have never tapped a tube before and I want keep this a DIY for now--but my feelings can change. I need to see a video or do it working side by side with a pro before I try it myself.

Insert: I am assuming you were happy with the factory insert and pearl, since no mention is made of them.

Side Note Regarding DWO: In my experience, installing a DWO is one of those projects that looks like it should be easy, but can quickly turn into a monumental pain in the ass. I did it once and I swore I wouldnt' do it again (at least as a DIY project). Katt if you happen to see this post, maybe you have a few pointers for me. I tried to figure it as I went along and that was a mistake. :) To install the DWO, I removed the DW, and tried to get everything lined up on the bench. I used a tiny bit of glue at the 10, 2, 4 and 8 positions. It looked perfect on the bench, then I reinstalled the DW and dial and clicked through the dates-too high. Second attempt, still too high. Third attempt too low. and the DWO shifted a bit so it wasn't changing smoothly. Fixed it, but still to high.... This went on and on. At this point in the project, I had to get it to work because the original DW was a mess. After 2-3 hours of this, I finally got it right. Put the hands on and it worked great on the bench. I installed the movement in the watch and--f-ck me--the date was getting was only flipping over half a click and I had to use the crown to get it down the rest of the way (date change for the crown was fine). The tiny bit of added pressure from having the movement in the watch coupled with the thicker DW was enough to throw off the midnight change over. It took another hour or two to sort that out. At the end of it all, the slightly better font and background color of the DW wasn't worth the effort.

The tube argument.

The case had to be chamfered to correctly take the tapered Gen/Clark's tube. The reason Q5? went with the gen set up is pretty simple. This was my case. I had planned to go with the TC crown and tube, I stripped the TC tube out due to the threads not mating. That's when I did some investigatory research on threads.

After I got the Clark's tube installed with an old non working spring, spare gen crown, I asked Q5 if he wanted to spend the extra for the gen crown because I wasn't game for it. Seeing as how I did all that work, it seemed a shame to put a TC crown on the gen tube. (TC crown is too shallow Btw to screw down on the clark/gen tube anyway. You can see this if you put them side by side.)

Long story short, Q5? had the apples to go all the way crown wise. One other thing is that this watch has is a WO gen click spring under the insert and the insert was sanded and epoxied so that it sat lower on the bezel. That tape bull crap that BP uses for the insert and the long spring makes for an unappealing experience.

My watch has different mods, engine wise, that Katt also did. Thanks Katt. I will review that in time.

As always, you're tremendously helpful R2. It Q5?'s watch required a heck of a lot of modding to fit the clark tube. I was originally ready to go all out on this watch (always loved the SD), but I think I am going to tone down my plans and just do the TC dial, hands and bracelet for now. You got me thinking though. The feel of the bezel really makes a difference to me. Is the BP bezel assembly a pain to work with. Does it pop off with a knife and a little pressure at the corner like the gen? Gen spec click springs are cheap and from the pictures that I have seen, the bezel has the correct notchs to accept a gen spring. Would I need to do anything with the friction plate or any mods to get a gen spec spring to work properly?

People just think, oh, I'll just screw in a TC tube, but the reality is the threads won't mate. At least in my experience, and not just the BP dweller but other Rolexes I have worked on over the years too.

Anyway, it is a worth while mod and you might be able to get the TC crown to fit your rep tube if the BP factory didn't bugger up the inside of the tube installing it like they did the two I worked on. You might have to drill it out larger as the TC crown spring stem tube might be larger in diameter. That would be the easiest to work out. But I do think you have to do tc or other more accurate crown, it does make a difference.
