1959 Rolex 5512 PCG mod question?

Here is a recent arrival, Rolex 5512 4 line dial with PGC mod already started:

The crown guards currently look like this:

Most PGC seem to look like this type, longer than mine, more gentle slope on the top of the point:

But there seems to be an early variation to the PCG mainly on 5512s produced in 1959. The point is steeper at the top but also comes in at the side too as well as being shorter as a whole, you can see it compared to the normal PCG here:

My question is, can my PGC be further modified to produce the side point?
Is there enough metal at this part to produce this effect so the PCG resemble the 1959 variation?

Hope this makes sense.

Any help/points of view would be appreciated.

The key to giving yourself more material to work with is reducing the area between the crownguards and re-tapping to allow the crown to sit closer to the case. Search for Rolexaddicts thread on doing this to a cartel 5512 case.

Also don't forget that that the few remaining examples are old enough now that polishing and re-working the case is bound to have happened as well. Even if you get roughly the right shape it's going to look good :)

Have a look for LHOOQs thread on his 5512 PCG and also you can check my pics as well.

Cheers Bonesey, some reading to do.

I like the highly polished finish on your 5512, looks good.

The crown could def sit a bit closer on mine, maybe the mod would be possible?

No CG expert but it looks like you have plenty to work with. Bonsey gives good advise and I also recommend you study both his pics, and LHOOQ's.
My biggest concern for your watch is the crystal. It looks like the cheaper unclear cartel crystal. Consider a genuine T19 for 100$, or at least the inexpensive Clark T19.
Both of those have much better clarity....and then we can see your nice gilt dial.
My plain old 5512 says hi :)

I used a Sternkreuz T19 with a bevel edge on mine as I prefer the optics over the domed T19 on the cartel 5512 case set.

I admittedly have not done the research before posting this, guys, but I didn't know the 1959 model had any crown guards...Learn something new everyday!

The Sternkreuz T19 is what's on my 5512 currently, but I am putting a gen T19 on soon..I like the profile of the gen better.
It's funny, this 5512 is my best watch, and most of the other vintage subs I have are wearing gen crystals...this one got the Sternkreuz do to a mixup. It's a really good crystal but I'm used to the gens.
The crystal on LHOOQ's is also a Sternkreuz.
