I received my GMT-Master II 116710 LN REAL CERAMIC BEZEL (Asian 2836 clone automatic movement) yesterday from Puretime 8 days after ordering. I am very impressed with both the customer service, speed and quality of the watch. Everything went off like clockwork - no pun intended.
I used Western Union which saved me 10% and was painless once I set up my WU account and linked it to my bank account. This after a couple of failures in trying to use CC and Paypal. Western Union is the easiest way to make this happen with a minimum of complications. Highly recommend this approach.
Since I've owned (in the past) a Gen GMT Master I, I'm familiar with the look and feel of the watch and this Rep lives up to that memory with great accuracy. The only difference is that I had the Jubilee bracelet and this one comes with the President bracelet. As a consequence the bracelet has a slightly lighter feel. I am certain that only a true Rolex aficionado or watchmaker could tell the difference between this Rep and a Gen. I can't. Would be interested in knowing if there is any way to get a Rep Jubilee bracelet. Any ideas or advice?
All functions work. The 24 hour GMT hand tracks perfectly and is independently settable. The date is perfectly centered albeit I think the magnifying lens is not quite the size and quality of the Gen. Not sure. Would have to have a Gen to tell. It works. Thats all I care about.
I've read a lot on the forums and FAQs about the poor QC of the movements and how many are dirty or poorly lubricated. I've got an old school watchmaker intrigued a bit, so I may have him open it up to inspect it and see if it needs cleaning and proper lubrication. He has the ability to test for water resistance. He is of the opinion that all modern watches including Rolex produce crap compared to the "old days", with inferior metals. He does not have a high opinion of the clone movements based on knowledge which is several years old. Maybe things have changed. I'll be interested in what he has to say.
I like this watch so much it will be hard not to wear it every day. It will be interesting to see if it holds up to daily wear.
Here are the "receiving photos" including the packaging and a comparison to my new Seiko Kinetic Analog SS. Your comments are welcome and thanks to those who encouraged me to do more research on Reps in general and get the Asian 2836 Clone movement over the more expensive Swiss 2836.
This will not be my last Rep from Puretime. Saving for a A. Langne and Sons Datograph.
Thank you Angus and company! Very satisfied customer.
