What to do with this Gen 16610 Sub Insert?

So, I have an extra gen Black 16610 Insert that I bought. It is brand new. I probably overpaid for it ( a little over $300 with shipping)... I was going to use it on a TC Sub, and I happened to get a TC Sub (en route) with a gen insert installed already.

Now I have this thing and don't know what I should do...

  • I could get another sub and install it. I always wanted a blue sub with black bezel...
    • If I do that, would the latest noobs or BPs fit the gen without filing and such? Recommendations? What is your advice? I might just go black no date - still not sure...

  • Just sell it. Someone else may have a better use for it and I could fund something else altogether - but I might like the idea of an extra sub...

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks!

Getting the money you paid for the insert might be a little hard. If I were you, I would just keep it and put it on another sub like you mentioned. Dont worry about sanding the insert because its a very simple job. Good luck with your decision!

or just send it here, I will put it to good use and thank you also
Or you could take on a project, build a nice 16610 and sell it on, with satisfaction, that you sold your own modded sub.

Good ideas. I will either keep my eye out for a sub that will fit it or just shelf it in case I need it... Would a blue sub with black bezel be ridiculous? Just think a "reverse shark" might be cool... Opinions? Sometimes I need an intervention on bad ideas... :)

That's a great idea... Will use this insert as a cack ring. Great thinking!

I think so too. Now I need to figure out which blue sub to go for. Looks like noob v2 is not ready and when it is, not sure if they'll have a blue... I might email BK and see if his blue subc noob can take a gen insert. Unless anyone has other suggestions...

Damn! I just started another project... Lol!

Doubt a ceramic sub will accept an aluminum old-style insert. You are thinking in reverse... What you need is to buy an old style 16610 that accepts gen insert (TC sub) and then swap out the dial with a blue dial.

What would be really cool is if you swapped in a 16613 sunburst dial with the black insert. It's a darker dial than the smurf blue so I bet it would look AMAZING when you put the two together... And the contrast wouldn't be so sharp.

That's exactly it! I have already reached out to TC. This may be doable but the only concern with the TC parts is sourcing a blue dial that will be compatible. Here is what TC told me...

"They did make an 116610LB but the dial and insert of the 116610 series are of a different spec. It will not swap with 16610 speced models.

Now, you might have seen some modded 16610 out there with the blue dial. But you will soon notice the blue dial and inserts are all after market parts or basically rep parts. If you can get your hands on the rep 16610 blue dials I would assume the dial was made to fit the original 3135 movement. If that's the case you will have to mod it to fit the 2824 movement. "

Or... I just look to see if I can simply mod out one of these:

Latest BP from Ryan (although Ryan couldn't comfirm whether or not a gen insert would work):

Or... Wait and see if new noob 3135 comes out with blue face, etc... The solution is emerging with continued persistance :)

Am still researching this... And would like to build with TC parts - If I can source even an aftermarket blue dial that will work with TC 2824, it will work - and yes, I'd love the sunburst look! Thanks for all your advice as I continue this crazy project research! :)
