So been collecting reps for a bit now and have mainly stuck with the quartz and 21j models. Have been really happy with all watches until I finally decided to purchase a "proper" rep. In terms of price, it was first rep in excess of $350...hell, first rep in excess of $150 for that matter!

Well suffice it to say, I can't look at my old favorites the same way again. Dammit, it's true, you get what you pay for especially in the rep game.

Just received a few cheap quartz watches and if I received these prior to the "proper" rep, I'd be giddy but now all I can do is hold them and think I should have just spent the lump sum on 1 nice rep. It's everything from the strap/bracelets to the overall finish. Just glaring differences in quality and finish. It's like test driving a Ferrari 458 and then driving home in your Toyota Supra. Still a nice and dependable sports car but dammit, it's just not the same.

I hate you all for being sooooo right!

Cheers everyone.

You mean a 360 Modena Luthier. I bet your Supra was tuned to like 500hp?

I see what you mean alf.
I started off buying the $350 reps, and then bought from Silix a Cartier Tank for my wife and a Chopard GTXL for myself, which cost less than $140 for both. The Cartier is pretty bad, but the Chopard is actually a pretty decent watch with an automatic 21j movement. When you consider that the price is $75, it's actually great, but when you compare it to the AP Diver 3.5 or Pam 111N v3, there is a glaring difference.
I guess we'll be seeing your ads for selling your quartz and 21j soon.

Damn. Yes, 360 Modena, my Holy Grail, most beautiful car in the history of automaking...
I had 355... But 360 is still my dream.

You can always go higher end and pay too much. I look for a sweet spot - reps that function correctly & pass muster at casual glance, obvious only to gen collectors. I remember my 1st PAM rep looked nothing as advertised. But I learnt quickly from experienced collectors here and am very happy with the recent 3 purchases.

Unfortunately I think I'm now hooked...

Love the Japanese super cars (Lexus LF, NSX, GT-R) but they don't have the sex appeal of Italian.

I think 355 is better looking... much better looking! That's my "attainable" dream car.

I think it's better to start with a "super-rep"
I'm glad I started of with a good rep that convinced me stay in this game, if I would've started with a cheapie like some I purchased later on and sold, I would've been long gone from here.
I remember some morons telling me in the chat that I'm an idiot for getting a $800 rep as my first one and that they would never pay more than $200 or $250 for a rep, :finger: that watch is an amazing watch, excellent quality for a rep or gen, still my favorite and convinced me reps are worth it.

I will have to try an expensive rep some day to see the different. So far, I am very happy with the cheapies that I have even when I compare them to the low end gen in the market :D

Completely agree but I'm warning you, your expectations right now are low and it still keeps you happy. Take heed that if you cross over to the dark dark side...your checkbook won't like you...more that is :)
