Very interesting read. Looks very like a 28xx clone from the rotor side. Another thing to have to worry about now when ordering watches from dealers :(

These new breed asian movements don't have quick date set feature. It's not improperly working, its supposed to be like that.

I just assume any rep uses the very cheapest possible materials to get the job done. They are in the game to make money not make a quality product, remember the rep game is to deceive and BSing on movements is nothing new.

I think the post is full of valuable knowledge and people need to realize in most cases your probably not gonna receive a quality movement in a rep.

Im sorry but your wrong, this one does. Its not even that it isnt working at all, it will work intermittently then stop working.

Its accomplished by this little gear here which gets engaged when the stem is pulled to the first position out.

Problem is it doesnt always move out to the datewheel, or somtimes moves back away, and just sits and spins.

Ive found that if you put a SLIGHT bend in the retainer plate that sits above the gear, so that it puts a little pressure on the gear, it will engage the datewheel more frequently. But its still not what id call reliable.

Got one in my SOSF:

Watch was $198.

Movement is noisy and you cannot set the time exactly as there is too much play. The hands move when turning the crown in the opposite direction normally used.

I had purchased a explorer 2 about two weeks ago and had the exact same issue as you guys are referring too. It was sold to me as an 2836 clone but the dw was a huge problem and didnt turn over at midnight only manually. Maybe its an issue not only with the sosf but prob many watches that are touted as 2836 it seems..

Can of worms partially opened when it comes to this new breed of movement. I fear we are going to experience more and more issues with reps fitted with this. Just hope our TD's such as Angus, and Ryan hear us on this, and do something about it, like informing the factories that this corner is not worth cutting.

You won't make any impact on the makers and their money still coming in waves after waves even if you can get the whole forum to boycott this movement. They won't do anything about it unless this movement is creating more problem for them, all they care is about profits. They make watches as a business, to earn money and not as a hobby.

DG-2813 (infamous 21j) price at Watch Market in Guangzhou is around $7, mean factory sell it to dealers for about $5. This one is just a little bit more refined, and hi-beat, so, I think production cost is around $6-$8. But I might be wrong. We still don't know, which factory make this movement, and what is it's catalog number.

This may explain why I had to send my SOSF back to the TD as the watch was not winding...

You say that, but if we all pull together, and refuse to buy reps with this movement fitted, the impact on the factories would be apparent, no?

While i wish that was the case, I really dont see this happening.
For one, i know of a couple of people who really seem to like this movement, (im NOT one of them), and some people dont know enough to make an informed decision, and some people just dont care.

I had said before, initially i had high hopes for this movement. I really wanted it to work out. Right up until I unknowingly recieved one in my steelfish.

I will never, ever, knowingly purchase another watch with this movement in it.
Ever.

But i dont think that will make a difference.
