Hi Guys

So my luck with reps arnt getting any better , this time its my new sea dweller from sora.

I opened it up and set the time but noticed after 5 mins it was a minute behind , i set it again and it seemed ok for a bit then ran slow again. I noticed it was unusually loud so opened the back off , heres a video of what i mean bearing in mind this is being picked up on my crappy iphone 3

I was putting it away again when i noticed it had stopped , looking at it some more it seems to go silent when tilted one way and stop altogether the other as if something is jamming the spring ? Heres a video of it stopping , hopefully some of you can help me out :)

I wonder if you have a screw loose(not you personally). A screw can be just slightly loose causing the movement to bind in different positions when parts shift. This, combined with improper oiling could cause the problem. Try checking all the bridge screws(balance, barrel, train and automatic bridge).

Does the movement look dirty? It is hard to tell from the video.

I am sure some of the experts can help when they chime in.

Same thing happened to mine. Mine was a balance staff that got misaligned after I touched it by accident.

Could you advice on how/what to check the bridge screws ?

ummmm. not sure on that. I sent mine to a watchsmith and this is what he told me. He knew immediately as this is a common problem to the symptioms you describe. He fixed it for me (using same part, not new part).

If you don't feel totally comfortable working on the movement, I would send it off to someone. There are a few guys here that can work on it for you. Contact them first to see how backed up they are.

The bridges on a movement are the main plates that hold everything together. Just get the right sized screwdriver, move the rotor around and check all the screws you can get to and make sure they're are tight. All except the one directly inboard from the stem that holds the silver wheel in place. Leave that one alone. It's reverse threaded as I recall and you don't want to unscrew it.

Oh, and then make sure you fully wind it. They don't automatically wind themselves from a totally dead stop.

Took a quick look at it before but will wait till im home with correct tool before i tighten anything..

Is the Yellow circled area the reverse threaded screw you mention ?

I have found that even very lightly touching the area circled blue stops it catching and it ticks fine , as soon as you stop touching it you can hear it catching at that angle.

I spotted a screw in the red circled area that looks close to the wheel could this be whats catching and would i be ok to try tightening it ?

Yes the yellow is the one I meant. Under the red circle should be a pin on the main plate to hold that chrome part in position, not a screw. I doubt that has anything to do with it.

If touching the blue makes it move normally it's possibly the screw to the right of that one that holds the regulator base plate down is loose.

I don't really know all the proper names of the movement parts, so I hope you get the general idea. It actually could be any number of things but digging deeper into the movement probably would require someone more talented.

One other thing you might try is slightly loosening the two movement holder screws and unscrew the crown, then see if it still stops. That would tell you that the movement is bound up in the case and the pressure on the movement is causing it.

It's a long shot but the last easy thing I can come up with without taking it apart.

Like KBH said, I would check the screw next to the one you circled in blue(BTW don't mess with the one circled in blue). The screw we are talking about secures the balance bridge to the main plate. If this screw is loose, the balance can move enough to change timing or even rub on something causing it to stop.

checked and that screw it tight , still stopping and running 5 sec a min fast , Looking closley at the balance wheel i think the spring itself may be damaged

Well, that would do it. Looks like sending it to someone to fix is the next step. Or, you could list it and purchase a different watch.

Good luck

Does anyone know if it is the balance wheel / spring would it just be a case of buying a new one and swapping them over ?

If so does anyone know where to get them from , im not even sure what movement i should be looking to for parts as this dosnt look like my past 21j watches.
