Can't change strap on diver 3.5

Hey guys,

Changing my Roo diver strap has proven to be a challenge. I quickly removed 3 of 4 screws holding the rep rubber onto the lugs. Screw 4 will not come out. I can screw it most of the way out but it is stuck. Tried tweezers. Nothing. Any tips?

remove the lugs from the watch, don't change straps with the lugs in the watch case.

push from either side after or during you unscrew the cap all the way out of the bar so that you can reach and pull out one side completely. A properly sized needle will allow you to push the other through and out of the strap.

Clean all threading then use a very minute amount of proper lube on the threads before reassembly. For those that are confident they will not be changing straps, they may dab some loctite on the threads to tie everything in.

Don't mess with the case screws unless you're putting a bracelet on! Otherwise leave the 4case screws alone and remove the other large screw(s) that secure the strap to the lugs. You need to use 2 screw drivers at the same time to do that.

If you need to remove that 4th case screw, push it from behind with a paper clip through the empty screw hole on the other side of the case.

Sure, if they want to come right out that's great but I disagree advising to fight the cap and bar setup with your $20,000 watch head in tow if you don't have to.

These can be tough to get out, especially if the tolerances between strap/case/lugs are causing a binding somewhere which isn't hard to imagine w/ the reps.

Sorry, I've kept the lugs in. I am attempting to remove the large screws.

I have the Ap bands tool removal tool. Perhaps I did not use it correctly when I disassembled the diver.

I changed the ROO chrono strap fine.

I don't understand what you're advising. Unless you have an extra set of lugs, you have to remove the cap and bar. Why damage/strip the fourth case screw, if he hasn't already? This is not a $20k watch, it's a Chinese replica.

OP, you're trying to remove the cap and bar? You need to hold one end with the screwdriver, and unscrew the other end, if I understand what you're trying to do.

Dan makes a great point. He is trying to keep you from scratching your case. It's a great method for folks who don't have a lot of practice on AP's. also, on straps that don't have inserts on the ends, that's the easiest way to do it.

Dan and BMW - That is a great idea if I was replacing the strap. I want to put a bracelet on it right now so I'll have to remove the lugs.

I am getting some binding up. It feels like it's lodged into the case. I have began to strip the screw and now I'm afraid to mess with it.

These threads are so delicate. Stainless Steel is easy to cross thread. I always back the screw out till I feel it catch, then screw it in. You may need to back it out and rethread it

Thanks. So, can I rethread it by unscrewing until it catches then screw it back in a few times over?

Unscrew while pushing it from behind with a small paper clip. As I remember, you need to remove the rubber bracelet/cap and bar to do that, and bend the paper clip to get it in there. No need to take it to a watch smith yet.

I had the exact same thing happen to my diver a while back - trying to help you - why? Not sure. You should probably just go to a watch smith.

Yeah, I knew what you were trying to accomplish It's hard to express in text form the intricacy I suppose. I think we're all on the same page though. Nevertheless I hope you get your watch sorted out, good luck. :)
