Was able to pickup a gen Sub-C today after selling my IWC 3777 and trading in another high end watch.
A few observations....
Props to the BP Sub-C for taking a good shot at this model. It is pretty damn close.
The things that are tells if a gen owner was to examine your rep are the cyclops first and above all others. After that maybe the crystal height and then the pearl and platinum insert markings but they are much less noticeable. It's the cyclops that jumps out.
Unless the factories use the same AR and assembly process the rep is not going to fool everyone. But otherwise it sure is damn close.
Also a while back I recommended using a Cape Cod cloth to polish the bracelet a bit. Some members freaked out saying you should not do that on a Rolex but let me tell you for sure that if you polish the BP or NOOB bracelet with a Cape Cod for a few minutes it will look much more gen like. The gen brush effect is much finer than the rep factories. My polished BP Sub-C looked much more gen like then the original look.
Final thoughts...until the cyclops is improved maybe go with the Sea Dweller or No Date Sub if you really want to pass your rep off as gen.
A photo of my new daily beater carefully displayed on an empty Pepsi can...
I save my Panerai reps for special occasions
