In most cases finding someone local that will even touch a rep is near impossible. That is why we have our trusted 'smiths listed on our site (and others throughout the fora) that are easy to work with.
But then, you may have an easier time finding someone local in Pakistan to do the work for you.
That's not been my experience. I've lived in Chicago and now in NYC and have taken some reps to local watchsmith for repairs in both cities. Not one of them cared that it was a rep. All they care abt is getting paid. Taken a Pam and a submariner to a watch repair guy in the diamond district here in NYC without any issues other than haggling over the costs. Only authorized would care. Any other watchsmith just wants to get paid their hourly costs. And with the economy being the way it is and business being slow, they're happy to work on anything and get their fees. My Pam from puretime wasn't holding the charge over unite despite bring fully wound up. So I took it in the get it repaired and the watchsmith knew it was a rep but charged me quite a bit b/c he told me that the time that it will take him to overhaul the movement isn't any less just b/c it a rep as opposed to a real watch. But apart from me getting screwed in terms of cost, there was no issues...
I think the major problem with taking a rep to a local watchsmith is unless the watchsmith deals with alot of reps, finding the parts to repair it becomes a problem. 7750s in particular, gen ETA parts are not the same as in the a7750.
I agree with Raddave, that's what the local watchsmith mentioned. That its not easy to get the parts for the Asian movements but places like NYC diamond district it's easier. And also it's the cost associated with it b/c the time and labor is the same as working on a gen. For example. When u have 10K watch, paying 200 to service it is fine. When u have a 300 panerai, paying 200 to service it seems retarded but they were extremely happy to take my 200 to service my 300 dollar watch...
So I found a great watch repair shop near my work that took a look at my watch. To my surprise, it wasn't even a big deal when I said it's not gen. I guess to some watch smiths, a watch is a watch. Anyways, it was looked at for no charge and right now, I'm weighing in my options to fix or sell it as is......
Good stuff. Yeah that's what I've been trying to say. Not sure why a lot of people seem to be scared. Watchsmiths dont really care... all they want to do is get paid for the work they do. The only ones that would care are the ones at brand boutique shops or authorized dealers like Tourneau. The main issue is that it may be difficult for local watchsmith's to source parts for reps. The one thing you'll have to bear in mind is that fixing it will cost the same almost as fixing a genuine because from his standpoint the time and labor would be the same. Being a rep doesn't mean that it will take less of his time or labor
