If I was going to put a diamond on the dial still, where should it go? Above/below "PJR", off to the left like a sec@9... or just keep it gem-less?

I would do it just like your sig - below.

If you HAD to put it on I would say above the PJR but I do think the dial looks really classy as it is....

My I ask where you got your custom dial please, I am looking for the exact same thing, a luminor dial with custom printing on it??!!

The reason I ask is I tried to go in atheya's website and it doesn't work for me??

Thanks guys!

The Jackson cases arrived. I still cant decide what case I want to use and if I want a diamond or not... but I think Im leaning torwards w/o again. Here it is mocked up in the Lum. case.

I know the Rad case is classier, but having the high polish with glossy strap, I think it still can look classy with the Lum. case... at least as classy as one can look.

I should do this for my twins. They love watches already but thinking bronze so by the time I had them off they are aged like a champ. Patina wise.

Thanks!

and you can and should. Just takes a few parts and a dial from Athaya. Didnt cost that much either... the most expensive item was the $100 gator from Panatime.

Another update

So, I decided to take apart the Luminor and redo the dial to make it fit into the Radiomir case I originally wanted to use. Brand new movements are currently making their way through customs, so timing is perfect.

I had to sand down the edges since the dial was cut to fit a 47mm Luminor case. I repainted black and sprayed a gloss clear instead of matte. And instead of filling the indexes with a clear epoxy and luming behind it, I filled directly with lume. Can't want to get it back together... this time, its actually exactly what I wanted it to be.

I'm pretty sure you can use some 2500 grit paper to sand down that orange peel, laying it flat on a piece of clean glass in figure 8 or random motions on wet paper, then use some auto polish (Mothers) on a microfiber cloth to get a superfine gloss on that dial!

-Well, here is a bump from the past. The watch is now completed for the third time. Although I think Im going to respray the dial, but the same finish. I got the idea because of the recently released 605. The process for the dial was to polish it and sand to give an underlying sunburst effect. Then a couple coats of a translucent black paint and then a light coat of semigloss clear. In the end I wanted a dial that just looked like a matte black dial in most lighting, but at the right angle in sunlight a subtle sunburst would shine through. I also used a set of DSN Fiddy hands to finish it off.

The final product includes:

-Athaya dial(polished, sanded, painted and satin cleared)
-DSN hands
-Brand new Waltham Chronometer grade 6498-2
-Jackson case
-Rocco vintage nubuck strap

Fascinating thread. Always interesting to see a journey documented and I love the fact you keep playing with options and the zoom forward to now and you're still having fun with this. Will make it an even greater treasure for your son. A really wonderful gift. You should create a journal/ book showing all the efforts and changes to go with this watch. And I'm completely inspired to start creating something too. Superb.

Thanks guys. I love it exactly how it is now. I just keep getting an itch to change it. Modding is the fun part.
