Took a couple of days, but removal of old white paint, priming and platinum paint application was worth it.

Need to replace the pearl if/when some good aftermarket ones pop up.

Here's the before:

I tried a few different kinds of paint and finally settled on Tamiya X-32 Titanium Silver. I know some have used Testors Steel, but I couldn't find that exact colour so used the Tamiya paints I have lying around. Tamiya are excellent paints and are acrylic based, so the cleanup is super easy. Testors is enamel/alkyd so A bit more messy.

This mod is highly recommended for anyone with a rep sub c.

Looks great! How did you remove old paint?

You can leave it. It will act as a sort of primer. But I inspected it under a loupe and it scraped off fairly easily. So decided to remove all of it first before priming with Tamiya XF-2 flat White.

I simply "painted" acetone onto the numbers and wiped immediately with a rag:

I had to apply acetone 5-6 times to get the original paint off completely. It dissolves pretty much on contact with the acetone.

Btw, I removed the pearl first and then reattached with 2-part epoxy after painting the triangle (is there an official name for that part of a bezel insert?).

I didn't want to risk breaking the ceramic by removing it completely. I don't think it's required. Just be careful not to let the thinned paint get into the seams.

I'd be all over this mod, but I'm not keen in taking out the pearl, since I finally have a Noob w/ one that is centered perfectly!

Removing and reattaching the pearl was actually the easiest part if this mod. I say go for it!

Nope. Too gun shy. Folks are taking about heating it with a torch? Not this guy ;) Is it just glued on there, or is there some sort of post that goes down into the insert for added stability/security?
