Hi everyone.

My first post! I am a noob to the rep scene, and learning very quickly.

I just made my first purchase, using Silix. At first, I had chosen about 5 of the economy watches - so much to choose from! But then after doing some research on the forums, I learned from others who had begun this way and regretted it. I do however only have a $400 budget or the wife will get angry(ier), so I settled for just 2 watches:

1. Hublot Big Bang Limited Black Ceramic - http://www.silix-prime.co/index.php?...oducts_id=4760

And because I wanted a Panerai but couldn't afford an expensive one, I found this Titanium automatic which looks like a good compromise between a cheaper version, and spending over $100 more, which I can't afford to do, or getting nothing:

2. http://www.silix-prime.co/index.php?...oducts_id=4411

The Titanium of the Panerai should be heavier than the cheap steel they use on the cheaper versions, right? Also it doesn't say "Mineral Crystal", but "Synthetic Crystal". Not sure if there is a difference, or if this is similiar to the Sapphire Crystal (a guy can dream)... any knowledge here would be appreciated.

Loving this, and planning on building this hobby. Please let me know what you think of these choices, as I have ordered, but not yet paid, so may be able to change! I specifically want to know if anyone has experience with Panerais from Silix - are the more expensive options worth it for a Panerai? I'm aware a manual winding mechanism on a Panerai is more accuarate as a rep, but is it a better mechanism to automatic? Does the Sapphire Crystal AR make a huge difference?

Little about me - South African. Exposure to 'economy' reps by visiting flea markets and buying some overseas (mainly Canal st, New York). The reps I own: Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date, Breitling for Bentley, Breitling Navimeter, Breitling Transocean Unitime fantasy, TAG Monaco, TAG Carrera 17, Bell & Ross 01, Patek Phillipe Skeleton.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone here. Thanks!

good choice

cheap rep, dont bother getting it, save your money and get something high quality later on

Ti is lighter. not heavier. synthetic sapphire usually means mineral. if its sapphire, it'll say 'sapphire.'

I wouldn't get that Pam.
The hand winding 6497 is one of the most reliable movements found in reps, definitely better than the 21j. I would go with a light version of 111 H or if you want a titanium case 177 H. The H factory version has superlume and AR, it's selling for around $150 and the quality is pretty damn good. Check this one http://www.trwatch.com/product_info.php?products_id=894
Titanium is lighter and scratches easier

I appreciate the welcomes. And the advice.

UPDATE: In the 5 days that I have been a member on this site, I have learned an ENCYCLOPAEDIC amount, and still know relatively nothing. What I do know now, has changed my mind about the watches I ordered, even though my budget hasn't really changed (maybe streeetched a little) and thankfully Silix was very accommodating.

Here's what I'm getting now:

1. PAM111N - http://www.trwatch.com/product_info.php?products_id=894. Changed to leather strap. (thanks to smokiedabong for this!)

2. HBB All Black V1 lite - http://puretime.co/product/big-bang-full-ceramic-all-black-v1-lite/

The second option was changed from the HBB 2011 black magic full ceramic due to the fact that available stock of the 2011 black magic didn't have AR. Silix emailed me to tell me and ask if I still wanted the watch, which is honourable. I wonder how many dealers would send the watch without telling - especially since I'm a noob, not sure I'd notice. Also to mention that this is in no way the fault of Silix, as the factory batches can be erratic and the previous batch did come with AR. Silix has since removed this from his website, to his credit. Other TDs still have it on their site, so be careful with this batch! (see http://puretime.co/product/big-bang-2011-black-magic-full-ceramic/as an example. They may have exisiting stock with AR, but be sure to check!) Even though at first having to change my choice was dissapointing, I think I am getting a better watch now in the end.... (an experienced rep collector might know something I don't, but this watch is a v1 lite, with 28800bph, full ceramic, which is great!)

I think the rule here is to read and ask and read more and ask more before placing your first order with a TD. It pays off. I almost made a mistake that I would have regretting after learning some more down the line. Thanks to all who steered me true.
