From what i understand, the Deepsea Challenge was made for one purpose only.... To reach 39000 feet depth and not be destroyed. It was not made for saturation diving, so no HEV was necessary. Additionally, at 39000 ft a HEV would be a potential point of water ingress, so it was not included.

thanks for all your answers, after that, i searched wikipedia and learned whats the helium release valve for, also learned that some real-life diving watches are made so sturdy that no helium can enter inside them, as I guess this would be the case, if this were a usable diving watch

I think it is a wonderful piece of engineering, and the fact that it won't go into production makes me want it even more, even though only as a rep, like for example in the case of the HW opus eleven, if somebody make the rep, he can count me in for one of those too.
