I got my cheapie Silix 6200 through a couple of days ago, the theory being to start to have a try at this modding malarkey! I've read countless threads and really like the look of what is possible. Anyway I'd promised myself I not just leap into it like I normally do with most things, so I thought if I posted pics along the way it would slow me down and more importantly make me pay attention!!
So all I've done so far is give the case a bit of softening and bleach the bezel. I found bleaching the bezel a bit more hit and miss than I thought it would be! I need to find some more finesse in the process, it all seemed a little bit unpredictable!
Anyway, once I'd done those mods I thought I'd wear it for a bit before attempting any further mods. So in the mean time I thought I'd do a wee photo shoot with it.......
Here is the watch in all its glory
Now onto the photo shoot.
I was after a very tightly controlled style of lighting, with very little spill into unwanted areas, so I figured I'd try with a small led torch.
First stage was to narrow the beam down a bit to really keep it controlled.
Next I needed to find the darkest room in the house and set up.
My glamourous studio!
Then it was just a case of turning the lights out, setting the camera to "B" and quite literally waving the torch about!
First attempt! Fail! The trick with this technique is not only to be very exact with where you shine the torch, but also the angle at which you shine it. In this first attempt I've shined it from too far in front of the watch, (it is the reflection of the torch you can see in the crystal as a bright blob!), in order to avoid this I need to keep the torch further back in line with the watch almost right above it.
Next go, being careful not to bring the torch too far to the front of the watch.
And one final version with a few more "light trails" in the background!
